A Tractor Photo

There is a Cockshutt 40 in this old pic from 1978. My dad ran the tractor and I rode the "bale float" behind the old 270 baler to make stacks of ten bales. It was some job to keep the stacks up on those side hills. Two dimensional photos do not give the true effect of just how steep those side hills were. Other photo is my dad in the blue cap and second cousin in red as they check out the hay crop prior to cutting. About 1978.

Love the photos, especially the one of your dad and cousin, a couple of REAL farmers, not the drug store variety. I think that might be a Cockshutt "special" or something like that with that cream color on the tin, etc. For sure, one of the later models in that lineup of tractors. Made in Brantford, Ontario right?

Yes, a genuine Canadian tractor company right out of Brantford Ontario. And don't judge by the colour. That 40 was originally red. Its a 53 model but we updated it with disk brakes and the "Knoedler" seat. Its been on the farm just over 40 years.

Nice pictures thanks . We always ran the knotter shield up as well to keep the chaff out of the knotters

My 270 often has the shield up as well, I forget to put it down as I watch it after a miss tie from a twine ball change or the like.

Figured it was a 270.

(quoted from post at 21:32:54 11/15/18) Nice pictures! From you videos I thought it was fairly flat around your place.
You can't really tell from pictures and videos but we have a rolling landscape here with a few little creeks. Hillsides are only fit for pasture as they are too steep to run machinery on. Check this one of my dad and a big rock we pulled out of the ground and dragged up onto a hilltop where there was an existing rock pile. The land looks fairly level but check the angle of the tractor. Its a very steep little hill along side the creek.
