I removed the bowl and the float from my Farmall 400. Before I re install the float, I would like to clean it. What should I use for cleaning it?

Thank you. I know that the question had been asked before, but I could not remember the answer.

If it is brass you can use Barkeepers Friend. At your local supermarket. Mix a paste and rub it with a sponge or cloth and when done it will sparkle.

I use the wire wheel on the bench grinder -- very lightly -- a dirty float dont float as good as a clean one -- shake it and make sure it isnt full off gas -- I find the leaks by placing them in a cup of hot water -- it will bubble out the leaking hole in just a few seconds -- be sure to totally hold it under the water -- works like a charm - Roy

Same as nasty brass shells. Salt, white vinegar, and water in equal amounts. Keep an eye on it and remove and wash thouroughly when clean.
