Tight boots

I bought a pair of work boots the best China can produce. Anyway they are a little snug. Is there a magic formula to loosen them up? I had them stretched, but still tight. Any thoughts? Stan

Soak them in warm water and wear them for a couple of hours walking. Used to work on quality boots. Of course, you could always buy them big enough to start with.

This works for me,too, except I wear them longer than a couple of hours.

Bad time of year for wet feet, though....

IF leather soak them in clean water then wear until dry. Had to do this with my pair of Doc Martens. Most comfortable shoes I own after I did this.

I wear a 13 wide and my feet might be considered a little odd and my son wears a size 16. In your case, it may be a little late for this advice, but I always buy shoes from a place that will exchange them with no hassle.

You get the ones that are a little tight in the store, and they just get tighter and tighter the more you wear them. You get the ones that fit great in the store and within a week they are falling off your feet.

I will not buy shoes unless I can actually try them on first. "made in China" means that the size indicated on the label may or may not be correct. You won't know until you put them on your feet.

Your post reminds me of a story about a fairly well off rancher that always complained about his boots being too tight.

Many wondered why he would complain when he clearly had the means to buy a proper fitting pair of boots so finally one day someone asked him, his reply was;

Well on a typical day I get up early in the morning, go outside in the dark, fight to get the tractor running then I mess around with feeding bales that are frozen to the ground to the cows.

By the time that is done I move on to clearing snow, thawing out watering bowls, fixing broken corrals and repairing whatever equipment broke that day until well after dark.

By the time I get back in the house the whole day is gone, I sit down on a chair and reflect on how everything I tried to do to went wrong and wonder why I do it.

Some days pulling those tight boots from my feet is about the only satisfaction I get.

Even then you still won't know because they are NEW and not broken in.

I wear Chippewa logger boot made with what they call Chip-A- Tex which is the same as Gore-Tex. These boots need very little break in not stiff like regular leather boots.

I have a pair of work shoes that are a little tight. I've found it helps to put several inserts under my heels so my foot doesn't go as far into the front of the shoes. I've saved some insoles from old shoes and cut them at the arch. Works for me and makes them more comfortable.

I have very bad feet and my foot is very wide with a very high arch.
Extremely hard to find boots that feel good.
Bought some Justin boots about 14 months ago and they are very well made and comfortable and MADE in the USA.

Get your bunion worked on and loose that little toe. How do they feel now? I would just take them back and exchange.

Taking boots back ..... well not a problem at Costco, it might be an issue in most other stores if they have been worn very much (or stretched). I guess it would depend on the retailer .....

You do know at the Red Wing store they carefully measure your foot for you and sell you a boot that needs no break in time.

I love my Red Wing boots. You are right about the way they measure you up and the fit is great. Pair I?m wearing now is 8yrs. old, been resoled 4 times.

The USA Justin?s are a much truer fit than their Chinese brothers. I have a pair of Red Wings and 2 pair of Justin, one USA one Chinese. 3 pair, 3 different fits.

I just "adjusted" a pair of boots. Take a piece of 1 inch iron pipe and bend it like a hockey stick. Drill a half inch hole across near the bent end. Put a carriage bolt through the pipe with a nut on each side. (to get the head off the side of the pipe) Put this in good vise and slide the boot on the end of the pipe to position the bolt head where the boot is tight. Move it back and forth in the tight area while beating on it with a rubber hammer. I have done this several times. It helps to oil the area first to soften it up.

Pour a cup of water in each one and wear them till dry. Did this several times while in the military. Best fitting shoes I ever had.

They did measure my feet. They didn't have the right size one too big, the one I bought just a little too small. I thought they would wear in. They are still just a tad too small. Stan

I bought a pair of boots when I was much younger. They weren't to tight but they were tough. I didn't think they would ever loosen up. About that time we started chopping corn silage. After a few times stomping through that corn tarping loads they got softer than a babes behind.
