Picking corn is about like harvesting red kidney beans. I have some good memories, but I'm glad I don't do it anymore!
I finished corn record early, Oct 26.

Elmira area. About 1/2 way east west across the PA NY state Line and about 20 Miles north of the state Line.

I had an uncle that live in a town called Adison,,he lived near Goodhue lake,,he had a dairy farm,,ever heard of Goodhue lake or Adison?

Addison NY is about 20 Miles West.

He had a dairy farm,,he passed away from Cancer and the farm was sold.It was just up the hill from Goodhue lake.He was my dads brother,,moved from NJ to Addison around 1970 or so

We have 4? of new snow this morning. I really wanted to get it done before the snow added to the mess. The deer and birds are hammering it real hard also.

Ton of argument over what is upstate NY. I say it is anything north of Orange County. However upstate is further broken down into regions, with Elmira being in the twin tiers.

how do you keep the picker in the rows if you spinning and sliding around?

i always wonder how the aamish keep pickers lined up when pulling with horses.

With a ?pull type? machine, either a chopper or picker one of the hard parts is that the machine wants to slide sideways. That makes it hard to keep it lined up with the rows. If it gets too far out of line the rows will go in but get knocked down instead of feeding like they should. In the end you have to make the decision between getting what you can or leaving it for the deer and birds. We had to abandon some of the chopping corn because of the mud. I?m hoping that it will freeze and I can pick it. I?m afraid that by the time the ground freezes the wild animals will get it.

One other thing to keep in mind, the picker is running on ground that doesn?t have any ruts yet.

I always thought that upstate was north of the thruway.

"Upstate" is where Hil lary lives, Westchester, etc., on up to the Catskills. North of there you either get into the Adirondack region or Northern NY. You also have Central NY and Western NY. It ain't all "Upstate".

People around here say NY has 2 regions. NYC
and upstate. Most wish it was 2 different states.
