Shop Refrigerator bit the dust it puked compressor oil out it looks like the compressor has rusted thru it 30 plus years old. The one in the house is a conventional freezer on top I hate it bad you have to get on a knee to find anything in the bottom... It has slid out shelf but you never know what my 91 year old mom has put in it with out a cap so you dare not slide a shelf out unless you want to clean it up... The one in the house is going to become a shop Refrigerator.

I like the top french door freezer on bottom deal it would be nice to open the top doors and fetch what I need with out taking a knee. Its just mom and me it wont be long its just me the freeze part will not be top priority.
Lowe's have a couple on sale what Y'all think... $999.00

We bought a Samsung from Lowe's a couple years back. About the time the warranty expired it started freezing everything in it. Digital control display at the top could not be adjusted. Beeped all time. Lowes said they could not get it serviced because they really were not a dealer. No repairman around here ever figured it out, and the company said they could only send one from Nashville at $150 for the drive, not including repair costs. I have not been very happy.

I just have had good luck with refrig. all my life. I have some rental houses so I've bought a few. I've bought cheap ones and I've bought high priced ones and had good luck with
them all. Having said that, I suppose mine will crap out tonight.

Hello Hobo,NC,

Yep that is a good price. Service after the sale should be also a consideration. Ours is 8 years old, warranty ice maker, drain pan upgrade fix, on me. New board and temperature sensor, on me. Mine is an LG. The Make does not matter. As they say: They don't make them like they used to,

Guido.

We've got a Kenmore, think is made by LG, freezer on the bottom.

It's been ok, had some icing problems, but I think that's from it getting left open.

But my biggest complaint is ice build up in the roller glides on the freezer door and shelves. In the showroom, unplugged, everything works real smooth, but under realworld conditions, not so good.

I think the next one will go back to side by side.

The Kenmore Gold (by Whirlpool) we bought for our first house in 1993 is still running strong in our basement. The Amana (by Whirlpool) we bought for our second house in 2002 has had ten times the work done to it, but I do like the french doors better than just one, both have freezer below. The Crosley Shelvador that came with my parents' first house in 1961 is still staying cold in mom's basement, and survived last Summer's flooding.

We only by the all fridge type, no freezer. Have a
couple of chest freezers . All fridge allows you easy
access to things you wat all the time, at eye/ chest
level. And plenty of longer term storage on lower
level for say whole case of pop, etc

Definitely freezer on the bottom. We have had two, first one one door, second
french doors. Liked them both. New one is an LG and when we had a minor glitch
found out noone in the area services them. Finally found a repair service about
1 1/2 to 2 hours away that comes to our area when they have a few calls. They
took care of it but they aren't going to get here right away in an emergency.
Oh, there is a dealer in our area but they only servive what they sell, can't
blame them, ours came from HD.

It looks like a good deal. I noticed what appears to be the same thing at 25% off at Sears for $1600.00.

Take the one out of your house for shop. Then buy a new freezer for house.

Personally I hate the bottom freezers. My 3 sisters have them. The ice maker
takes up too much space on the top. They don't seem to have enough space for
me.

For my garage I have a cheapie conventional refrigerator, freezer on the top,
less than $400. Have 22 ft side by side in house.

Neighbor had a 10 year old Frigidaire go bad, lost freon. Next to impossible
to find leaks in refrig.

I had a 10 year old dehumidifier that had many pin hole leaks in the
evaporator. I think the copper used today is junk.

Problem I see with anything today is nothing lasts like they used too. I have
a Kenmore 22 ft side by side I bought in 1991. No problem with ice maker which
doesn't have an expensive filter like the new ones.

4 years ago bought a Frigidaire side by side for place in south. Change
filters every 6 months, replaced ice maker twice. No holding tank in refrig
section for water in door. The water is warm water. Water line for water in
door froze up. They definitely don't make them like they used to.

Good luck.

Lowes is my go to place for appliances, free delivery, set up and they will
haul away your junk, FREE.

I never bought extended warranties. I Made an exception when I bought a
Whirlpool close washer. Less than 2 years I got a full refund. Bearing went
out and too expensive to repair.

I agree with Geo!!!! We have a Samsung French doors, freezer in the bottom and a second pull-out door (nice) that?s between the freezer and French doors and with the ice maker (which quit working month after warranty went out) and that door doesn?t seem like much fridge space!!! No one either know how or wants to work on ice maker so do without and by ice!!!!! ?BUT ITS THE STYLE ? now!!!

I'll be 60 in February and the fridge I have is older than me. Still have to pull the handle to unlatch it. Freezer is on top. I would rather the whole thing be fridge and then use separate freezer. Got one 20+ ft in cellar. Need another for berries and things Berries and Squash fill one each year. Squash makes good pumpkin pie along with the berries.

Hobo,

Make sure the freezer drawer pulls out on extendable tracks.

Not a Samsung... but my MIL nearly bought one where the drawer just slides out with no track - so if you extend it to a certain point, it falls right out of the freezer. I just know she'd have ended up with a drawer full of frozen food landing on her foot at some point... and probably not a good thing when one is over 80.

Had to do some talking (because it was $250 more for the one with track), but did finally convince her to get the nicer model... and in hindsight, she is glad of it.

Forgot to add: We bought an Amana top fridge/bottom freezer... AND love, love, love that setup!

No more standing on our head to reach something in the bottom of the fridge. Much nicer to clean the interior of the fridge too.

My family has a camp that we all enjoy there is a Hotpoint Refrigerator there that we still use it was purchased by my Aunt and Uncle in 1949, other then a new door seal replaced 10 years ago it still runs like a new one. You do have defrost it from time to time but it keeps our beer nice and cold .

Top freezer never made sense to me...which gets used more, fridge or freezer? Always bending over to get something from the fridge on the bottom. When we had livestock, and 6 kids at home, at one time we had 4 freezers...handles those emergency butcherings if needed. Now, just a bottom freezer and 2 others.

I thought Whirlpool built Kenmore for Sears. Can't remember but Some body bought the name Kenmore over a year ago>

Got the one in the add 1181.00, tax, delivered/installed, new water line ran, 5 year extended warranty. It may be a good I.D. to clean your drain pan out in your shop frig every now and again more than likely that's what caused the drip pan to rust thru and exposes the top of the compressor :(

I needed a reason to replace the one in the house the rust god's sent me one...

It is that time of year, our fridge quit two days before Thanksgiving two years ago. We bought a LG four door from Home Depot. I would buy a three door(I think there is more usable room) but She wanted the four door. It doesn t make a lot of ice but it makes it quick. There is only so much room in a door for the ice maker.

I looked at those and said if I were to go there I would just get a side by side... That ice maker in the door takes up a bunch of room... I go after a glass of ice once a day... I have got so use to dropping a ice cube on the floor the first thing I do is grab a ice cube and throw one on the floor to get it over with....

I will hope for the best the reviews were not good most were complaints about noise... My mom is a nite owl beats and bangs on stuff all night long my bed room is far far far away from the fridge I am use to the noise....
