Hydraulic line

I have a steel hydraulic line on my tractor that has a small worn spot on it where it must have rubbed on something, would it be acceptable to braze it to fill the nick?

That works fine for such repairs, done it many times. You can seal cracked lines, as well worn spots, by brazing them.

Hi If it's definitely a steel line go for it, I've done it lots with lines and making adapter fittings for odd ball sized lines you just need to be good doing it so you don't blow through or fill the pipe up. I do know there are some lines if it's an older John Deere are made from something that won't braze, all the luck I had with those was bad they either just melt, or crack and fall apart when they cool.

Maybe one of the Deere experts can educate me a bit further on this they look like steel, but wondering if they are chrome molly or something else odd, I've never tried them with a magnet to see if they actually are steel. I don't have problems on any other stuff I braze here, so just wondering.

Thats odd I tried one that runs over the motor to the front on a 4010 /20 and an internal transmission line for a 1830. both failed miserably to braze, they both looked the same kind of material. we cut the spot out of the 40 line and put a joiner in , and replaced the transmission one with an update part. JD lines are the only ones i've ever had problems with like that, so the mystery continues.
