Bearing Removal Update

I posted a few days back about getting a bearing off its tapered adapter. The concensus was pretty much to cut it off and move on. I had to work the next couple nights, so I stewed on it a bit. I figured we'd give it another try, and if it didn't work we'd just cut it off.

I put the retaining nut back on flush with the end of the adapter, but not tight to the bearing. I then put the 3 jaw puller back on the outer race and torqued her down. Then we took the air hammer with a block of aluminum and hammered the adapter back opposite the direction the puller was pulling. It took a couple rounds, but it let loose. I don't think the bearing is any worse for the experience.

The tapered adapter on the fan was actually worse than the bearing. It required a fair amount of heat and persuasion with a sledgehammer and a block of steel.

I know everyone likes to know how stuff works out, so there you go. Thanks to everyone for their input as well.
