Case 1070 Agri King

Hello Folks and yes I am brand new to you site and the reason I signed up is I am looking at a tractor that I do not know much about and was hope some of you folks may be sill to share some of your wisdom concerning this machine?

I am getting into a lot of CRP land up to hopefully just under a section over the next couple weeks and the land does require some maintenance to keep it in compliance with the rules, in the past I have always rented what I needed and now I think I want to own my own equipment. I am looking at a 76 Case 1070 with 6500 hrs on it, the injector pump was rebuilt 2 yrs ago and the PTO was rebuilt this year, new clutches and seals. This tractor does have the power shift option and a 3 point, it also comes with a DUAL HI-lift loader with grapple and a really old dual stage snow blower. It has a set of duals that comes with it and the rubber there is marginal as well. The tractor is in very reasonable shape, no rust, engine runs very well, cab is straight and all glass is good. I was thinking of offering 8K and going to 8.5K if I had to? My question is this a good piece of equipment? are these tractors reliable, what do I need to watch out for?
Sorry for so many questions My Case days ended in high school plowing with a 930 so any ideas you may have would sure be appreciated!
Thanks much
Karl

overall good tractors. i would suggest posting on the CASE forum as they can give you more input.. especially on the things to watch out for on the power shifts. If taken care of and not abused (like anything) they should be ok but there are things to watch for.

where are you located? around here (northern IN) you could probably get that for around 6500-8 depending on how clean and who might be bidding against you

Very reliable and fuel efficient
tractors. Watch for a lot of blowby
from the engine as that will tell it's
condition. Also crack the drain plug on
the engine to see if there is
antifreeze in there, they are over 40
years old and the o-ring seals can
leak. Make sure it pulls good and trany
ok pressure is good in all powershift
gears and shifts are crisp without
excessive lugging of the engine. Also
make sure PTO, hyd, and steering work
in all gears as that is an indication
of trouble. If it's all good it will be
a good tractor. I suggest changing
fluids to make sure the trany has real
case hytran in it, that will keep
things good for a long time .

Location will make a difference too. Here in my area Case tractors were not popular (poor dealer years ago for the area) so are not in demand. I'd say ballpark in the 5500-6500 range is everything is OK.

Jon F is very knowledgeable on these tractors so his advice is probably better than mine. My experience with Case is all bad and all very expensive. That tractor around here is about $4,000 I would guess. For $8,000 I would get a JD 4020. I am not a JD fanatic but I would take a 4020 any day.

If it's clean and the main tires are good, he said the duals are poor, and the loader is not busted, and everything is good, that would be a good price around here. That loader is $1500-2000 here, so $6000 for the tractor is good. Nice ones will sell for $8000+ without a loader. The 9/1070 will sell about as high as any 70 series. And they are a lot more tractor than a 4020, for power, fuel economy, and comfort.

Hey guys and Jon F for sure, First off thanks much for this information and it will help me a whole lot in verifying just what real condition this tractor is in. OK my next question id going to sound (different) but do you know any places where I can down load an operators manual for this tractor so that I can learn how to operate it to test the things Jon Talked about, I hate to buy a re Op Manual just in case the tractor flunks the tests, then I am looking again.
Another question for you guys is do you know of any tractore of similare specs to this one with a loader and grappel that are for sale that you know are in good shape? Thats another option, I have to transport the tractor no matter where I guy it.
Thanks much for your help!!
Karl
