Question guys, putting my power steering back together, new radiator also. Question, what type of fluid do you recommend? Most say John Deere, my guy out here does not have that. Also how much is needed? I have the old fluid I drained out of it, is it worth filtering that and putting it back in the unit. It was working fine.
Thanks.

I'd use genuine DEERE PS oil in it, ESPECIALLY if that is what was in it before and it isn't leaking.

When you drained the bottom of the pedestal, quite a bit of oil remained in the rest of the system and will mix with whatever other oil you put in.

It's my understanding that the viscosity is higher than some hydraulic oils, IDK?

NOT sure what you mean by "my guy out here does not have that", it that a dealer???

It isn't even totally unreasonably high-priced at some $7 a quart.

IIRC, automotive PS oil is typically $4 to $6 a PINT.

We have used [b:654c4848f0]Power Steering Oil[/b:654c4848f0] from John Deere.

Approximately 5 quarts.

Hope this helps.
