Special Day

Tonight I took the Baker clan out to Golden Corral for all you can eat shrimp and steak. We had a big day here, one I felt might never come. I made the last land payment, so now this shack and all the ground is paid for. Mom And Dad, as well as my Big Brother are all gone. I felt almost sad that there is no one left that was there to see me start with nothing to get here today. None of the old family to "high five". I do have my wife and children, but sure miss my folks tonight. They helped me when everyone else thought I was crazy. They didn't have much money, but always were willing to jump into the seat of a tractor or combine. Always came running if the cows were in the road. Mom sometimes would come over and clean up the house or leave a hot meal for me when I got behind. Even in his seventies Dad could outlast me going without sleep. My Brother never was able to help much here on this farm, but always called and asked about stuff and acted interested about his kid brother. Funny how after so many years working hard that now that I am here I just don't know who to tell that I lived though it. Thought I would post it cause I know on this site many guys can understand how the struggle feels. Al

Congratulations, nothing quite like the feeling of owning your land free and clear. I'm sure your folks are looking down with a big smile.

that's totally awesome al, it sounds like you've had a long row to hoe to get here. but don't worry your folks and family are smiling down on you today!

I remember that day, have walked a little straighter ever since. Even though i do limp a little. Congratulations!

Congratulations on achieving your long term goal, I sincerely believe that accomplishments such as yours are one of the main keys to a happy life, it doesn't matter if it is a farm or a house in town, the satisfaction of being in control of your own life and responsible for the success or failure of your dreams is irreplaceable.

Congrats to you! I remember when my dad paid off the farm, he became a much nicer human being LOL! Of course with 14 kids he was under a lot of pressure. I made a commitment early in life to be debt free, been there since the early 1990's....it is a life changer.

Al;
I believe you could have not picked a better group to post this on. These guys seem to truly care for each other, I love to see this. Congratulations, you have accomplished a great thing. Dsmythe

Congrats Al. I know exactly how you feel, having been raised with a bunch of kids on our family farm. I am proud of you, thinking of people who help out. Old expression "Remember where you came from"

Al it sure is a good feeling isn't it? Paid mine off a few years ago. Still have some debt to go yet. 15 years ago Wife and I had about 200,000 now down to about 10,000.

Nice post Al.
Congratulations on the payoff.
As to losing your loved ones,
Be glad you loved them while they were here.
Not everyone is as lucky as you.

Congratulations on years of faithful hard work and great management! By the sounds of your fond memories with your family no matter what you paid for your farm it paid you back in spades.

Congratulations! That has to be an awesome feeling. Hope I get to experience it some day myself.

Al, you have accomplished something that few folks will ever do, congratulations to you and your family. My wife. Nd I are still climbing that hill, and have found that over the years, I have made it a moving target. Just when we were almost paid off, I sold that farm and bought a bigger better farm, could have paid it off one time, but stepped out and bought another. Guess I am a slow learner. I share your same thoughts of wishing parents could be around to share some of our life?s victories with, but consider this. How proud your parents must have been to see you well on your way to a successful future. You did your folks proud, and are a example of their hard work and sacrifice, in raising, teaching, and instilling in you their own values.

Congrats!

Well, if you had a bigger family around, your celebration meal would have needed a loan to pay off and then you would be right back in debt? :)

I know about family, folks and sis are all gone, no kids. I was the youngest grandkid on both sides, so all my aunts and uncles are gone, 1st cousins are so much older don?t see many any more.

Kinda look around and no one there, no one to look back with, or ask about the old days.

Paul

Congratulations, you are an inspiration as we all can maybe get there someday with a lot of work and sticking to it. Hope the best for you.

That's a great post Al - congratulations! I think the older we get, the more we realize the value of family. I know it's different, but now as you enter the next phase of life, you can enjoy your children and grandchildren

Congrats that is a big accomplishment now days. Most people only live about 7 years in a house before they move.

It is indeed a great feeling Al. I have been debt free for many years but I still remember the hard work and sacrifice that it took to get there.
When someone asks me how I acquired all of my land and machines I just tell them that I went to work everyday. Funny thing but that is the truth as I never won any lottery or inherited anything. I am glad that you had some to help you celebrate your release from slavery [debt] and now you can just pay yourself.

Something about that feeling that unless a man has been there just hard to explain. Took me a lifetime but all mine is paid for and sure makes one feel good. Congratulations and I know you are proud.

Congratulations Al!

I'm sure they are smiling down from heaven at your accomplishments.

We all dream of the magic day when we are debt free!

Congrats! Best nights sleep I had in years is when we held the deed to our home.

Al Baker,
I am often a day late and a dollar short...

But CONGRATULATIONS on paying-off the farm. That's got to feel great!

Now this is what my father-in-law heard a guy say one time. (Most farmers keep a place 10 years longer then they should.) By the time a farmer is ready do sell it, things are falling down or falling apart. Congratulations on the big day.

Congratulations, when I became debt free the tax man ate me alive. Start figuring out how you are going to counter what the tax man wants of your freedom...

A New tractor is a good counter offer...
