My Gmail contact list is very unstable when I want to scroll through it. It randomly jumps forward or back many names when I'm trying to scroll slowly and gently. Is there a fix I can make or do I need to see a "computer doctor"?

Thanks, Ron

55 50 Ron,

Not sure... but wondering if it could have to do with your mouse "speed" setting.
I need to look into that for laser moust at work - goes crazy fast when selecting/highlighting text.

Another thought is if you still have an old style mouse with a roller-ball inside it (rather than a laser), you may need to take that ball out and clean it off. Long ago I had a mouse acting very erratically and my brother (a college educated computer guru), told me to open the mouse and clean the ball... fixed the problem instantly.

first thing you do is run a complete virus test on your computer. not just a partial but full scan. then run your defrag program through your windows. if that fails then computer doctor needs to see you.

Check the underside of your mouse. If there is any dust buildup that can interfere with the red light, that can cause your mouse pointer to act erratic.

Good suggestions below.

There is also a setting on your mouse control that sets how many lines advance/click. I'm betting it's set on 3 or more.

Good luck.

Ever since they "improved" it, I have had that same problem along with other problems. Wish I could go back to the old Gmail program.
It's kind of like if it isn't broke, we will "fix' it until it is.

You might try "Hotmail".

Oh, wait, since they "upgraded" Hotmail some weeks ago, when I open a "saved draft" to edit it before sending, it flashes and twitches and is generally useless. Had NO issues before the "upgrade".

As the other guy said "if it ain't broke they'll fix it 'til it is"!

Hey Ron -

What browser are you using? Have you tried Chrome? That would most assure the fewest problems, since they are from the same company. If one browser works better than another - it may be due to compatibility of the website vs the browser - or it may be due to a plug-in or addon in one versus the other.

Also, does it ever act crazy like that on other apps? Or just the contacts? Background apps sapping the "attention" of the CPU can cause erratic mouse/keyboard response.

In addition to the other suggestions on mice, I'd also mention I've seen weird "jumping" problems when people are using optical mice on a glass-topped desk.

I have noticed that my mouse (laser type) will do that on a glossy or smooth surface and it seems to be more noticeable in certain programs. I run my mouse on a piece of cardboard or construction type paper in those instances and it seems to help.

Thanks for the good replies, but so far none have helped. The really frustrating thing is that it worked without problems before Gmail must have made some changes. How do you contact a person at Gmail and give them a piece of my mind? Why oh why can't somebody leave something alone if it's working good?
