The other half of the fall time switch

Usually along with the complaining about switching the clocks back this time of year we get a bunch of threads about what scoundrels deer hunters are.
You know, the ones that tell ya about the trash left behind, the trespassers and fence cutters, how they thought the 100 lb pig with a pink ribbon on it's head was an 8 point buck and shot it,
the guy next door who opens up with his twin 40mm Bofors on opening morning, using a D9 to go across your bean field to drag a fawn out, the poachers, the morons, the tough guy confrontations that left 2 hunters dead and 3 wounded and property owner walking away under the stand your ground laws.
There haven't been any complaints about the slothful, drunken hunters yet this year who are sure to come like the caravan from Mexico (or he11) and are intent on destroying all things good and holy in the land.
I always enjoy reading those threads this time of year.
But where are they?
The rifle opener is this Saturday so it's time to bring them on.

I think the complainers have gotten behind on their posting stuff this year, and maybe
they are lazy from copying and reposting stuff from their favorite news sources. There's
no originality any more, so your short comment about the guy with the D9 dragging a dead
fawn across your bean field wins for now.

Gun season is a month out here. I need to ride back to my woods and see if the weekend warriors that lease the wood behind me have put their stands facing the clearing in my woods.

did it look like this???

Bruce, when you started with " car and pickup" I thought you found another couple " parked" again in your back field.

Been saying that for a long time. They copy their term papers right out of the encyclopedia and forget to put it in their own words.

Oooohhh! Spook like! I have 0 use for it, it would be great to drive over things for a day...

Gun season has not started. At least here it has not. Don't worry. The jack wagon hunters will be out as they always are. Nobody has died between last gun season and this season so I know that they are there. I don't know why you take offense when somebody posts a complaint. I would think that nobody has reason to make things up. By the way you forgot to mention the hunter that accuses others of transgressions that he in fact is the one doing himself such as trespassing.

If rightfully on their side of the line...tree stand can face any direction they so choose.

I find it difficult to understand how people think they “own” the wildlife on their property. Wildlife are a ward of the state, DNR, Dept of Fish and Game, etc.

wouldn't that be the thrill of a lifetime , there was a guy I believe somewhere in colo. that went ape s-it nuts welded steel plate all over a big dozer and ran over the whole town maybe 30 years ago

If they're a ward of the state, maybe the state could come and reimburse me for the 50 quarts of beans I would have had if their dear little deer hadn't eaten my plants. Grrrr. . .

While I do agree with you...the state is not responsible for the actions of wildlife(although they do try to control it...ie high fencing, hunting season expansion/retraction, trapping and relocation)

Ward noun: a person or thing under guard, protection, or surveillance. - Webster

Hence the term Game Warden.

Btw.. they got mine too...and the sweet corn.

That?s what we?re dealing with, stands in trees right on fence line, faced directly into our place. And these guys aren?t even leasing or friends, they?re cutting into neighbors place from the backside.

See post below. Our house is 300 ft from the stands, which
are also facing our house. Might think a little different if some
rounds went past you (we have, including an AR at
200?...yeah, read that right). Not a simple case of our dear
little deer.

Will this help stop trespassers?

A thought for those tree stands on your property line, put out some white salt blocks at each stand. Of course on your side of the line. In most states that is "bating" and you cannot hunt within so many feet.

Be sure to paint the word "COW" in big black letters on your orange vest.
That way you might wake up from your nap.

A close friend of mine who has made a great sum of money in the scrap metal and demolition business came up with a solution to all of those problems. He found a 3600 acre lease here in Florida and after being part of a group of hunters that had it for one year told the land owner that he would double the asking price for the lease the following year but he would be the sole owner of said lease. So for the last five years he has had it to himself and you do not hunt on his lease unless you are invited.I have had the pleasure of hunting it every year that he has had it and you don't have to worry about someone sitting on your stand when you get there. It is prime with trophy bucks and the land owner is a great steward of the land and the wildlife. If I ever win the lottery I'm going to find a piece of land like that and do the the same thing.

Thanks, but salt blocks presumes law-abiding hunters. They?re already trespassing and know it...fences cut & folded back...they know any ranger has to go more than a half-mile from any direction to get to them. Been putting heads together with neighbor.

Thanks. Stand your ground & return fire doesn?t stand up in court if you?re not being physically threatened. But oh, when I was in that brush patch working and the AR rounds came in, sure made me reconsider.

That was a D8K, he owned a muffler shop in town and apparently there was a zoning or planning board decision that ostracized him and his business. So, he apparently spent some time preparing and armoring that D8K, then went on the rampage. They engaged him with a 637 scraper if I recall. The D8K I believe overheated and he had done himself in soon after if I recall. Sure made a mess, can't imagine even considering going through the trouble and actually doing something like that, have to be one angry grudge holding individual, and even then...?

Funny you posted this, have not seen any posts with such content, a welcome break from it ! They're around here sometimes, more so in the past. We have it good here, I can go to any of my stands on my land and enjoy the season, adjoining neighbors have changed and the yahoos that used to roam and cause problems wherever they want are no more. It's nice the way it is now, not even the darned ATV's are much trouble here anymore, but it was not that way for a long time and it was a pain in the neck to deal with.
