Reminds me of when my mother-in-law was still living on the farm. She reached into a dark corner of an old milk house thinking she'd be picking up a particular cat. She picked up a possum instead.

I think she woke up the neighbors for several miles around.

I had a pet possum when I was a kid!

For a short while anyway, mom had other ideas...

Dad brought it home from somewhere, it was a baby, weaned I assumed 'cause it lived and liked dog food.

I could walk around the house with his tail wrapped around my finger. He would follow me around like a dog.

One day while I was away at school mom threw it out in the yard. I came home it was sitting on the step wanting back in.

The next day he "ran away" again, this time a lot further away I concluded.

Still miss the little fellow.

If anyone sees him, he answers to George.

Years ago, my Dad reached between some hay bales to turn off a water valve that we had covered for the winter. Got bit by something and jerked his arm out with a 12 pound possum which had bit his finger through the nail all the way to the bone.
It was in the layer house and possum was very fat from eating eggs.
Grandma cooked it.
I did not eat any.

The process on both kidneys and possums would be the same for me:
1. Roast on medium heat until cooked.
2. Remove from heat.
3. Discard.

Gary .... do you mean boil the pi$$ out of it? Ha, that was an old joke my dad used to tell about how to cook kidneys.

Within the last 6 weeks I have live trapped one ground hog and four opossum. Getting to be winter soon so they want in where ever.
