Thoughts on "bumping" the boom?

Sometimes I'm tempted to drop the boom on my old Massey then bump it to a stop to dump whatever's remaining or stuck in the bucket. I don't do it but I see this is common practice, especially with big machines. Seems an awful lot of stress on the whole machine and some parts I'm probably not aware of. Anyone use this technique on your old tractor? How about newer models?

I've been doing it for decades with no
problems. The bucket on my DC now is so
slow it's not real effective tho.

I do it. You get the full effect from only about three inches. I don't see what it could hurt.

(quoted from post at 10:33:56 10/22/18) On a construction grade machine, no issue. on a farm loader, I would not do it. Jim

Ok, thanks. In spite of all the replies to the contrary, I'll hold off on doing it. It's a Ford 770 loader fitted to my Massey. Looks like a good fit and right size for the tractor. If I don't "feather" the controls, I can really slam it down if I want to.
