Im trying to figure out too, I haven?t heard. The news report is he was trapped/crushed between the combine and corn head, Family found him that way. Trying to sort out how one would get in that situation, or if the reporters got it a bit wrong.

The teenager that was killed I believe was welding on the axle of a spreader, and it fell down on him.

Both families work wgere my wife does, a very somber time in a small community, to have 2 farm tragedies in 3 hours.

Oh no.I had not heard that the teen died. Last I heard he was critical. My thoughts are with those families. I had the hydro go out on the combine last night and was kinda bummed out until I realized that is just iron. Nobody got hurt.

Haven"t heard of either one, but I suspect that there will be more due to the stressful Fall, trying to harvest in bad conditions. My sympathy to their families....

The teenager was working on a manure spreader, perhaps welding on the axle or anyhow under with a wheel off. It fell on him. They had to pull the plug the following day. I get choked up every time I try to say or type that one. His mom was my wife?s supervisor for a number of years, she always has a smile on her face, personable gal.

The farmer with the combine I heard fairly credible source today now, he got pulled into the corn head, not quite the way it was presented in print. I didn?t know him but we saw him often at a popular restaurant around here, appeared to be a popular and freindly fellow, nice guy, I?m sure we nodded hello to each other in passing over the years. Several of his family also work where my wife does.

Couple miles south of Sleepy Eye, couple miles NE of Sleepy Eye, 3 hours apart.

The following morning there was a car more or less head on into a semi 2 miles from my farm, the lady was airlifted from the scene to Rochester, I hear she has badly broken legs.

And there was a pretty serious wreck by Olivia also, person crashed into a beet lifter, I believe also airlifted out.

Farm tragedies

Always a shame when those things happen. Usually no accident...head was not shut off, blocks not used under a heavy load, every year the beat harvest claims some lives in Hector-Redwood area. Truck drivers trying to get as many loads in as possible during their designated 12 hour shift. Had a similar thing here this year- semi driver used a 2 ton jack to take a wheel off- unsupported, truck shifted and fell on him, killing him. Just don"t understand it...all preventable.

The combine story is back to he was putting the head on the combine in the field, and somehow he was pinched between the combine and the head. Must have been some odd circumstances to get in such a position when all alone, if the hydro. Rest on him while he was cleaning off the throat, or something didn?t line up when he lifted the head and it all slipped on him when he got off to figure it out, or what happened.

The details aren?t important in the big picture of what happened; but a person is curious and maybe can learn to do better if we understand what happened......

Sad deal.

Drove out of the river valley yesterday afternoon, and a huge cloud of black smoke in the distance. Drove north of St George 5 miles, and a black remains of a combine frame and several fire trucks in a field.

Getting to be a tough year around here.

I have my own little troubles, I managed to hurt myself a couple weeks ago put a couple inch by inch hole in my tummy muscles (and mostly fat I?ll have to add) and so have the neighbor harvesting for me. Just ends up a minor wound and I?m healing up faster than scheduled will be no ill effects at all just supposed to stay sort of clean and rest some, should be good in another couple weeks. Actually I?m cleared to do whatever I feel confortable doing now, and have hauled my grain away for the past week, but not quite ready for a 10 hour grind of doing it all and responsible for all breakdowns and dirt and stress of everything.
