Time for my once in two years scope. 3 day liquid diet then a purge tonite. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

My doc says nothing red. I was having my customary wee dram o' Scotch the night before mine. SWMBO inquired whether I was allowed to have that. I replied that the good doctor had said clear liquids were OK, and peering through my glass at her I opined that this appeared to be a clear liquid.

I've heard that same thing about no red liquids. I've never heard of a 3 day prep. Lots of people hate the prep but I think maybe having colon cancer could be worse. The worst part of the prep in my mind is the Gator aid that goes with it - that stuff is garbage in my opinion plus I can't drink any flavor I like since I like the red flavors. My sister in law had her first colonoscopy at age 53 and they found a cancerous spot. She didn't see any symptoms going into the test. She ended up having an operation and 3 months of chemo. Because of the test they did catch it early enough the treatment was effective. I'm convinced a colonoscopy is worth every penny and inconvenience it costs.

It's a 3 day liquid diet, the 3rd day clear fluids only, then the purging agent tonite before the scope tomorrow. My dad had bowel cancer, that's why his kids are urged to have a scope regularly once over 50 years of age.

I'm the five year plan because it runs in the family. It's not fun getting "prepped" but just think about the meal you will have when you're all done.

Due to have the test again this year myself, and naturally, not looking forward to it. Who would but a nut?
When I went for my last check, I only had to drink the purge concoction the day before, believe it was called shitteasy, and eat no soils food. I was allowed to drink cranberry juice. And nothing is any redder than cranberry juice.
Nurse at the pre op in the hospital suggested a little Vodka in the purge concoction makes the entire ordeal easier to put up with. Just don?t over do it, as you still need to make your way to the toilet, and fasten your seat belt once seated.
My brother had a tumour removed from his colon eight years ago, and under went three rounds of chemo therapy, A huge ordeal for him, and scared the rest of us into getting checked, so far we have been clear.
Best of luck Ben . Bruce

Saw on the news last night that they have a less invasive procedure that is still in testing out of California. Won't be offered for a few more years.

About a day and a half with our Doc- regular food up through supper on Sunday, nothing solid after that- clear liquids and Jello on Monday, bowel prep overnight Monday nite, procedure Tuesday morning.

I had my first colonoscopy at age 63. Boy am I glad I did, as they found colon cancer. I had an operation and took chemo treatments weekly for 6 months. thank God it worked. I had to have test done yearly for about 10 years and now am on a 2 or 3 year schedule as it fits my schedule at 80 years old. This is important that it's not your children that need to have the test, but your siblings as you all have the same genes. That was not my last bout with cancer, because I have survived 2 more bouts with throat and lung cancers. I still made it and tell everybody else to do what you have to do for tests.
