Just curious who is up to speed on the newer Massey Ferguson tractors. Uncle-in-law mentioned me coming to work for him (MF dealer) since I know a lot about tractors. I just don't know much about the newer stuff. I will be visiting him over Thanksgiving and would love to impress him about the models he is selling; but I've got to get schooled first!!!

Best way is to get some lit on what he sells and if you can Read throught he ops manual on them and the sales books,, I started selling/demoing equipment in 1969 at our Case dealership, I knew every spec, option and what each machine could do before hand. Sadly today most "salesman" I see at dealers today do not even know how to start most of them let alone know anything about them other than price or pmts,, Your uncle in-law could do and I bet he is doing far worse than you as you actually Want to learn about the products,, I was a proud boy to asked daily by my Dad about a spec on this or that when he was in his office selling something at age 10 and up,, by the time I was 13 I was the head sales guy for Uni-Loaders and Case Compacts (garden tractor to most) but also sold anything we had on lot from a crawler or backhoe to a 250 hp 4x4 2670. Sure is Good to hear someone excited about this side of things today

I admire your willingness to learn your product.
Not knowing product never seemed to deter car dealers from hiring sales people ! lol.
Back around 2007 ? went to test drive a Toyota RAV4. Had most of the family and wanted to see if they fit in it. Back seat needed the middle seat belt strap hooked up. Had 2 or 3 of their "highly trained" salespeople trying to figure it out. Then my maybe 12 year old Daughter SHOWED them how to do it ! still lol.

They call em mother fr for a reason 😂. Actually
Massey Ferguson is a good tractor 🚜 I just hate
how they are replacing names like Hesston with
Massey Ferguson. I worked at a dealer that sold
Hesston and in order to be able to do that they had
to sell an AGCO brand tractor so they sold Massey
and they were very trouble free

While I can look up the specs and study the literature, I guess I was looking for info on real experiences and looking for "sales pitches" for example......this Massey Ferguson will do [blank] while the other brand tractor will not. Or, did you know the new line of Massey Ferguson tractors are better than a Mahindra or John Deere because of [blank]. Just looking for tips and tricks info from real experience I guess I should say. Like you all said, the details are pretty self explanatory on reading up on the literature.

It would be nice if he would let you "test drive" two or three for a week or six to get an idea of what you like about them ;-)
When agco got rid of Perkins diesels they lost me. Too much 'made in brazil' stuff also. I "might" be enticed to look at new one but I would be going in blind. For what I do an old 200 series would be fine.
That being said you appear motivated and interested, two things that help in the sales world. I wish you the best!

AGCO isn't getting rid of the Hesston name - if anything it has become more prominent in the last five years or so. Large Hesston decals can now be found even on the yellow Challenger-branded hay equipment sold in North America. There's also a Hesston.com website now. Granted, all the product links take you to the Massey Ferguson website but at least the Hesston name is still out there. It is a trademark name now, not a brand name, but it is still very valuable for name recognition.

I will never ever buy a new piece of Massey Ferguson hay equipment. With a small decal that says Hesston buy Massey Ferguson Hesston in small letters and a giant Massey decal and red paint

Sales pitches? What is this, 1955, and you're selling Electrolux vacuum cleaners door-to-door?

The reality is these days there isn't anything one brand of tractor can do that another brand of equal size and horsepower cannot. It's all down to which color is your favorite, and price. If you are not dealing with someone that has fierce brand loyalty, you better be the cheapest.

I can see that but like you said you've got to come up with Something to get the buyers attention other than price and color. I guess if I end up working for him, I could have a place to let the customer demonstrate the tractor and have a Deere and Farmall there so the buyer could compare them to something similar to what they'd own.
