Any one make a cab door?

Threw out a lowball bid on a rough 6700 ford and nobody upped me so I owned it. With a little work it turns out its pretty sound mechanically, just looks like crap. Left door missing. Called wrecking yard and they basicly laughed at me, which I sort of expected. Said if they did get a decent door they were talking $800 to 1000. I have never heard of any aftermarket doors so thought I might try making one . Anyone done this or any ideas how to start.

Doug,Try contacting Adirondack Case Guy over on the Case forum,he has built some excellent cabs.Maybe he can give you some good tips to help you out.

Alexander Tractor Winsbor Tx is what DR is talking about and if anyone in the country has one they will acres of ford stuff. Great folks to deal with.

The door doesn't appear to be flat. The least bit off on an angle and you would be stuck with it where wood you could grind little differences off.

Ditto I've bought several parts for my Ford 6700 from them.

Take the right door off, take the windows out, and call it a ROPS.

Factory cab, I'd probably start with 1/2" or 3/4" square tubing, build up a frame, and go from there.

Don't care what you do to wood, it's always going to look like the Keebler Elf-mobile, or a redneck hunting shack. Metal is the way to go.

Looking online you can buy the upper and lower glass for about $60 each, having the shapes you need to work with would be a good start to making a door that resembles a factory one.

Another option make it in 2 pieces, upper and lower like the doors on some backhoe tractors.

Should be a ford "Qcab"... and that cab was on many models.... 5600,6600, 7600, 6700, 7700, tw5, tw10, tw15, 9700,5610, 6610, 7610, 6710, 7710 and more etc etc...Later in the 10 series ford when to the "super q cab" but the tractors had a roman number "2" on the side, and the door changed. I purchased a door last year for a nice tractor, but it took a couple of month for me to find one. They come in and are sold off quickly. Call the various yards and get on a list and you will eventually get one... AND yes.. due to shipping and crating,,, expect to pay 600 to 800 bucks for it delivered. The put it on a pallet and plywood around it, so shipping is $200 plus on the total cost. Still cheaper than a new door,,, assuming you could find one. I have two bent up doors for that model, but you would have to come get them as I will not crate them.

well the only 6700 in tractor photos doesn't have a cab, so i haven't seen the door, but to get a general idea, this is a time consuming project, but if you have some fab skills you can make one, id start by getting some heavy cardboard, double sided stuff, then work with it to make a skin , cut it in as many pieces as you need to get the shape correct, and tape them together, don't get in a hurry, once done you can lay the finished cardboard skin on a bench , now if this door has drastic bends in it this will be much harder, but if its just gently contoured you can use the cardboard shape as a guide to cut and bent sheet metal, until it fits the cardboard guide precisely, by this time you will be really deciding just how much you want that door, lol, but after the outer sheet metal is bent take some light angle iron of however wide the door needs to be, take the other door apart to see how they ran the bracing to get an idea, you can rivet it, tack it with a light duty welder, [ a regular one will just blow holes in your hard fought sheet metal] , and install the bracing on the back side of the outer skin where it needs to be, remember you'll be mirroring the other door, not copying it, this is really a long tedious job, and if you hire it out that will be one high dollar door, if it has a inner panel it will need to be made too, like already mentioned unless the tractor is for winter operation, take the other door off and just run the tractor without it
