Never burnt that much diesel

I pulled my nephews tiny house up to Minneapolis today.

it is 102" wide and about 12' tall at the peak, and only about 6K weight right now. I struggled to get 6 MPG and the boost was running right at 20 PSI most of the trip, never dipped below 15 PSI going down hills. This was a miserable trip, it snowed most of the trip, good news it was warm enough that it was only slick for about 30 miles. You could see the wake that it was creating, shot straight out on the front about four feet on each side of the trailer. I have no idea how someone could pull this with a 1/2 ton pickup.

I am glad it is gone, went down to Arkansas last fall, pulled the empty trailer up, left it here over winter and built the shell this summer in my shop. I am down to one project for someone else now, and that is the LI restoration, almost have my shop back to myself.

Was that you I passed on 694 westbound at Lexington Ave north of St. Paul at about 2:30 PM?

Seriously. Was the tiny house red? I swear that had to be you!

My 2 boys were facinated with how something that big could be towed by a pickup. They were sweating it a little when you went under the first overpass.

Glad you got 'er there.

Is he going to live in it? Tiny houses are kind of a big deal here in NH right now. There is the problem that you need to have an approved lot with septic to put them on.

Sorry, This was wrapped in Tyvek, my sister lives in south Minneapolis, surprising someone else was foolish enough to move one today, I started out going slow under things, finally just kept going and hoped for the best.

He says he is going to live in it, but wonder if he ever will, will have composting toilet.

never understood tiny houses 40to 50 k do they realize how big of an used RV that would buy seems like a fad to me

Hard to find an RV you would want to spend the winter in in MN.

Really, if you look at some of the older houses still out there, they were a tiny house before it was cool.

Original house on this farmstead was 10x18. It is our mud room/half bath.

Most places won't allow a rather small permanent house to be built anymore. Hence why some are attracted to the tiny houses. I don't see why there are so many developments of behemoth houses today.

IMHO the reason there are so many behemoth houses is the "large ego's" that must be fulfilled that many people possess. I'll bet the local county tax appraisal offices just GRIN at the amount of taxes these giant houses generate to the tax coffers.

plus you can buy those Amish built buildings for a fraction of the cost they have more room too, think my wife's 12 X 20 building was around $3500,of course the interior has to be finished but that'd be easy. And in my area they are classified as a temporary building with no taxes on it.

Our township has a minimum size for residential homes of 24x24. A couple is trying to get it changed they want a tiny house. It will be interesting to see if it gets changed.

I pulled over sized loads in the 90's, a large frontal area blocks a lot of wind, takes a lot for hp to pull and really sucks down the fuel milage. My semi averaged 6+ mpg at that time, pulled a 12' wide x 14' tall load to Salt Lake City thru Ia, Ne and Wy bucking some pretty good head winds, averaged 2.9 mpg on that trip but it paid good.

1/2 ton diesel? Where you using one of the new Dodge 1500 diesels?

My son moved one for a family friend this summer, from north metro to Bemidji, with his semi and a borrowed flatbed. We had 3 skidloaders to raise it, and schriffs backed the trailer underneath, then loaded his skidloader on the trailer as well. Tiny house is Tiny! I couldn"t see living in one, especially with another person. Very little storage for food, supplies, etc. Would be running to the store all the time. I came up with a ribald line after seeing it....too bad it won"t fit here. It WAS funny!.

(quoted from post at 12:55:45 10/15/18) I believe David G has a Ford Super Duty.
Some pretty good sized hills north of
Rochester.

I haven't keep up with the new truck market, didn't know Ford and Gm where entering the 1/2 diesel market with Dodge.
Could be a F-150, Super Duty's start at F-250 and go up, F-250 is a 3/4 ton.
