1974 Ford 4000 Tractor Industrial? Other?

I have a problem that I can't figure out. I want to buy a manual for my tractor but I can't find out if it's an industrial tractor or another type. Below are the 3 sets of numbers from the right bell housing just above the starter.

D142C <--I can follow everything but the 14 as that doesn't match anything I have found. D= Force 4000, 14=?, 2=gas, 4=Independent 540, C= 8 Speed, (13 and 20 are on each side of 14. Help!)
4D29B <--4=1974, D=APRIL, 2=29th, B=Days
C425551 <---C=Made in USA and 25551 is the serial number.

What is this tractor? It's painted blue as is the front end loader but the blue was painted over yellow so I take it the front end loader was industrial. I can't find a yellow spot rubbed through the blue however on the tractor.

Here's what's wild. The front end loader DOES have the same serial number sticker on it.
Here's the specs. on the front end loader sticker:

Stock # 1638 & 1740
Serial# C425551 LO3465
Code # 4000SU with 730 LDR

Whew.....sorry to be so long but even though I feel the front end loader is from an industrial tractor, I'm not sure the tractor is industrial and I would sure like to get a manual for it.

Thanks for any and all help.

I can't say that I have seen such a thing as serial number on the front end loader either but it also has the loader number too. Maybe taken off another loader like the original? I know very little about tractors so I wouldn't know and thus why I want a manual. LOL

The serial # also matches the number on the bell housing as well. Strange the loader was yellow and I can't find a yellow place on the tractor anywhere under where it's been painted.

Is 4000SU a bad thing or hard to find parts for or is it like the others, other than industrial.

Thank you so much!

The 4000 SU (special utility)is basically a 4000 with a 3000 front axle. It is an ag tractor. The 730 is an industrial loader. We installed many 730's on 2-3-4000 tractors. Painted them blue at the dealership if the buyer wanted the loader to match the tractor.

I have been doing some research on the 4000SU's and I sure wish it had the heavier duty front end.
Thanks so much as at least I know what I do have. I figured it was something stranger than others. Will I have many problems using this frontend loader with heavy weights? I wouldn't be using it all the time but gravel and dirt from time to time as well as wood. Probably need to find a 3400 front end eh?

Thanks so much for the help.

I have a 2000,3000, and 3910 Series II. The 3910 is like a late model 4000 series (say 4910 for one) but on a utility rather than row crop chassis like would be the case with the SU (Special Usage)......you get the hp and functionality without the large/tall frame. In looking up parts the SU shows up right along with other things. Being made from parts of larger and smaller Ford tractors, you still have parts availability, just may be a bit confusing in identifying which this or that you want. As time passes, that question should be easier to answer.

I know that parts sold off this site ("Tractor Parts" upper left corner of this screen) list all the applicable tractors when parts are listed and common parts have a longgggg list of applications.Ford isn't ashamed to use common parts and you and I benefit from that philosophy both in money saved and avalibility. Wink!.

You've got a number missing in D142C
D14 should mean 4000 Special Utility
2 or ? = 2 is for a gas engine, does it have a gas engine?
2 or ? = A 2 here is for trans pto, what pto does it have?
C = 8x2 trans

Thanks for the input Texasmark1.

I was really feeling bad about my purchase as I had this nice size tractor, big front end loader and weak (or what I thought may be weak) front end. I feel ok with it all now and thanks to everyone for enlightening me to not only what version of 4000 this was but also that the front end loader must have been installed at the dealership and parts won't be so bad to find. I had no idea what I had and with the blue painted front end loader where you could see yellow here and there, I was afraid to by a manual for the tractor for fear it was an industrial tractor. LOL

Thanks everyone so much for the input as it saved the day for me and I now have my manuals. Thumbs up!
