Helping a neighbor her husband has passed away she?s using his 9n to clean up and move stuff there is a cable on the dash that goes into the Bell housing if you pull out on the cable the transmission will not engage. What is the point of that? what is the cable used for? I asked down below on the Ford forum but so far nobody?s taking the time to reply.

It is for the Sherman over or under drive transmission. In should be overdrive I believe.

I believe there is a netrual position half way befor it gets to the overdrive position. At least that is the way it is with the later Sherman with the lever on the left side.

When pulled out it engages the standard gears, pushed in engages the step down or step up gears depending on which sherman you have.

You are correct leroy the cablee system sherman has a neutral detent the same as the regular shifter on the sherman.
