I have a chance to buy a OC3 dozer with a blown motor for $400. I have no clue on these. What could I replace the motor with? The guy said the cam broke and needs another motor. Thanks if anyone can help

I had one of those with a bad motor and it is hooked to the tranny with a coupler. Wish I had kept it. you could adapt many engines to fit it.

IIRC, they used a Hercules IXB engine.

LOTS of parts available on the 'net, is there more damage besides a failed cam?

At least it wouldn't be an "interference" engine!

If the tracks and under carriage are OK or better, it might be wort it if you like experimentation. They are OK when running, but
under powered. IIRC the drive is open and could have a variety of engines put in it. (seams like Hercules wes in it originally)
it needs 25hp to be real. There are no track clutches, just track brakes. This design forces the outside track in a turn to be
at twice the speed of going straight, and the stopped track gets to absorb engine energy. I would not do it unless you were
collecting them, but wanting to put a different engine in it precludes that. Jim

John, What do the tracks and sprockets look like? Zimmerman's in P.A. has parts as well as OliverCrawlers.com in N.Y. Chris will put parts or engines on a pallet and ship it. I have an HG which is the older model of the OC3 and used it yesterday. I have come across a lot of Oliver crawlers with engine transplants on Craigslist. I think I'd try to stay with something close to original if sheet metal and tracks are good. A local young man stuffed a Kubota engine off a refrigeration unit trailer in his old JD skidsteer. Looks and works pretty good!

I have seen them advertised with many
transplants from V4 Wiconson, straight
sixes whatever.

Bought one of those at a friend's sale this fall. Great little unit.
I've used it to move a couple dirt piles and level some ruts.
Only problem I have, is the governor sometimes hangs up at low speed.
Just need to take the time and make sure the linkage isn't a problem.
If that's OK, I guess I'll have to take the governor apart and make sure it's OK

I have a HG-42 that had a contenitail engine in it that lacked power so I found an Oliver 60 power unit and put it in. Had all the power I needed up till it got coolant in the oil and I have not messed with it since.

The guy sold it on me. But I found a 1969 1010 john deere . But the guy said that the tranny slips. Something about a spline shaft stripped. Is he talking about the input shaft? If so do I need to tear the tranny out to change it?

The 1010 JD series were probably/arguably the worst Deeres ever made. The engines have a poor history, and repair is really
expensive as the cylinders come in a deck set that drops into a big hole in the block. With money to put into it, I would stay
clear. Jim My brother has one, and right now it is OK. Jim

between the transmission & rear end there is a grooved coupling that connects the spline shaft of the tranny to the spline shaft of the rearend. This coupling wears out destroying the spline on both shafts. Replacement of the 3 pieces is nearly impossible to find used.

Don't think its a '69 as they stopped making 1010's before that. The 1010 became the JD 350 dozer.

If you are talking a diesel that could be correct but not if a gas engine as that was a very good engine used in thousands of combines as well as different models of tractors with no problems at all from that design. Might be expencive but what is not.
