9N starting problem

The 9N hasn't been started in a while (about a year). I forgot to turn the fuel on before trying, realized my problem and turned it on. It won't start but almost catches when I first try. When I pull the plugs, even after a short try, they are covered in fuel. What are your suggestions? Can this be bad fuel (in CA)? What are some things to check? To verify? Thanks.

Sounds like corrosion on the points. My Gravely does the same thing after sitting a long time.

Do some simple trouble shooting.
#1 check that you have a good blue/white spark that will jump a 1/4 inch gap or more at all 4 plug wires.
#2 pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will find a pint jar in less then 3 minutes.
#3 pull the air cleaner tube off and make sure you get a good suction there by placing your hand over the air while trying to start it. You should both feel a good suction and get gas on your hand.
#4 try to start it with the air cleaner tube off since you may have a clogged air filter due to dirt dobber etc.

My friend has a VA that was hard starting. We realized the gas had been in it for a few years. We drained the old regular gas and refilled it with Premium. Problem solved. I now run premium with no ethanol in all my old equipment.
