Stihl MS391 saw(again)

got the clutch off and seal under it looks pretty good, not purshed out like one on the other side. So called the Stihl dealer here, Stihl lists 2 different seals, the dealer will have to order them so doesn't know the difference. I am wondering if one is better than the other. One is about $6, the other is $17+. Or you can get a set of 20 from Amazon for about $14. Does someone know the difference in seals other than price?

A seal that "looks good" still may be leaking. As to which one is the correct one, I suppose I'd be asking the dealer to match up the specs and get the right one. Or maybe there is a right side seal and left side seal and they are different and he isn't explaining that? I'd do both seals if I had the saw that far apart.

Looked up the seals online
AS15x25x5
BS15x25x5

Maybe someone one here knows the difference between the two.

I'd go to the local bearing place and get one.

If they still use the same seal arraignment as thr 290 390 saws one type seal is used on a completely disassembled engine and the other is made to be installed in an assembled engine.

can you tell me which seal is for each application. I don't plan to completely disassemble engine if I don't have to

No I cannot by memory and a 391 seal is likely different than the clamshell engines I worked on. Stihl is very protective about parts and maintenance manuals being published on the web and has then taken down as soon as they spot them. You have about 3 choices. Find a good dealer, contact Stihl via the web site. Or join one of the Chainsaw forums and ask, link is to a good one with friendly knowledgeable people.

Ditto on what Butch said. Here's another forum full of good info.
