Today's auction buys

Today was the annual fall consignment sale. I bought this Bush Hog disc for $750. Got a pair of 15.5 38 tires for $5. One's on a rim. I bought an electric pressure washer, one of those that you can drop a hose in soap and spray that on. I gave $2 for that. I plugged it in,it runs. Haven't hooked it up to water yet to see if it'll pump water. Got a bunch of parts, odds and ends, one of those bent forks for raking ear corn,it's new, gave $20 for that.

750 for a disc like that ?!? Holy cow . You got all kinds of good deals didn?t ya ? I had to give 150 for the pair of 15.5s I bought for my duals and they have about half that amount of tread left

I'm not so sure I'd brag about being a crook! LOL
Nice buys sir. You never know how an auction will go.

Randy you stole that disk! I did some welding ( cracked frame were the axle pivots ) on one just like it for a friend of mine a few months ago and he paid over twice that for his and it doesn't look near as good as the one you bought.

I see this one has one bearing out. It's on the outside so I'll only have to take off one blade and a spool. There's a spool and an endcap that could stand to be replaced, but nothing drastic. It was the next to the last thing on the sale. It was after 2:30 and they'd lost most of the crowd. The only other bidder was a friend who was on the other side and didn't see me bidding. He didn't want it,just thought he'd make a few bucks on it,but then he came around and saw me bidding. He helped me hook on. I even used his draw pin to haul it home.

There was three pairs of 15.5s plus one pair of 15.5 duals. The first pair brought $30. The second ones were mismatched and brought around 15. The duals had the good clamps that hook over the bead. I wasn't paying much attention at that point, but I think they only brought a couple of bucks. There was a pair of 18.4 38 clamp on duals, probably 30%,no breaks and were holding air, painted Deere yellow. They couldn't get a dollar to start those. The auctioneer finally told somebody that he knew "You just bought'me for a dollar.". They put his number on them. I was waiting for the auctioneer to look my way on two other tires, but he didn't look. It was an 11L 15 on a six bolt rim and a 5.50 16 on an IH rim,the pair together sold for $25.

As far as the scrap man,I was wondering where they were too when the trucks sold. They sold a Ford F150 4x4 short box, probably about an 05 I'd say. Had an aluminum diamond plate toolbox, ran but has some rust. That brought $300. There was a 98 Chevy one ton dually flatbed, ran, ended up around $375 I think.

When the auctioneer says sold, you own it. LOL

I bought a box of stuff off one wagon, had a brand new (or rebuilt) starter for a Farmall H or M in the original box. I sold that to Fitzpatrick after I bought the whole lot of it.

I didn't know until a few days ago that they were even having it. There wasn't a third of the stuff there that usually is. It had been a family thing, then one of the brother auctioneers died. Rumor had it that the other brother had sold the grounds and there was a trailer park going in there. Their website had been shut down.

The other brother announced at the start of the sale that he had taken on a couple of Amish partners, that they were working on a new website and that they were having the annual spring sale. He said they were working to get things back up to the size sales they used to have, with five and six auctioneers going all day.

I?d love to find a set of 18.4.38 duals for anything under a 1000$ I wouldn?t care if they were painted hot pink . Just gave 800$ for a set of 9 bolt rims only

I'd heard US scrap metal prices have dropped (close to $100 per ton?). China's 25 percent tariff on US metals has reduced US scrap exports. The scrap man may be limiting purchases until the market stabilizes.

If you are in the market to buy old iron, this may be an opportunity, but pre-1960's tractor prices may be down for a long time.

Boy Randy you sure got a by on that disc, those 15.5 tires look pretty good when a person needs one.Twenty bucks for a corn drag you can't by a handle for that. For those prices you can keep your stash replentished.Scott

$50 a ton for camp run scrap locally. But they take water heaters, appliances, pretty much anything. They give a little more for processed.

Used to be I didn't want to miss a party for fear of somebody saying "You should have been there last night!". Now days,I hate to miss an auction for pretty much the same reason. LOL

I thought that disc would bring $4000 at least. They sold a John Deere 215 finish disc,I'd guess 16 foot, faded paint, cracked decals but straight. That one brought $3500.

You DID good ,Randy ,some auctions are not commanding the price they really should here either. especially the marginal stuff like i farm with that requires a minor repair like your disc. lucky to get scrap price. btw , i am in search of MORE clamps for the duals i have for my 4020 deer.if you have extras or different styles , Maybe ,you can at the very least help me determine what style they are .
