O.T. Follow up to " Hand gun question"

I Bought the Ruger Black Hawk. Seems to be a well made and well loved make / model. This one came with an extra cylinder for shooting 9mm. I put about 36 rounds of 9mm down range today. Haven't been any where yet to pick up .38 or .357 ammo but have plenty of 9mm. Doesn't kick as bad as my SR-9c which kind of surprises me. Also not nearly as loud also surprises me. Will wait until I put .357s through it. It will probably bark some then.

Great choice, one of the best old school revolvers still out there. The blackhawk is almost 2 times the weight of the SR9C, and longer too. Both of those will help with less recoil. The SR9C also absorbs some felt recoil when the slide draws back to load next round

I have several .357mag revo's there is a difference between 38spl and .357mag but it's really not a huge difference felt, at least for me. Typically a 9mm should have a little more recoil than a 38spl but they should be close.

double that on ear protection, that 357 will ring yer bell, i don't care for them because of the report, but a good round otherwise..

I can't remember which way but your point of impact will be a lot different from the 9mm to the 357. At least ours was when I tried it. I mainly use .357 with reloads that are reduced power a little from factory ammo.

I own a Ruger Vaquero in .357 and 5 1/2" barrel. I also own a Ruger SR9. The Vaquero is more pleasant to shoot, even with some fairly hot loads. A heavier gun with a longer barrel makes all the difference.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the Ruger. Glad you went with the blued model. I'm a traditionalist, I can't get used to stainless steel, even after carrying one professionally for many years.

Don't expect tack driver accuracy with the 9mm. The .38/.357 jacketed bullets are .357", cast are .358", the 9mm are .355", doesn't sound like a lot but it's a big difference when you are talking about jumping the cylinder gap and into the forcing cone. I carried a Ruger 38/357 revolver a lot when working in the summer with CCI/Speer 38 shot shells in the first 2 chambers, good for legless reptiles, and 125 gr JHP in the other 4 for two or four legged varmits.
