YT success story

So I had the Massey doing some heavy lifting for me (she doesn't like me straining my back). Went to restart--click. Then nothing.
No power to headlights or anything else that needed electricity.

I tested the battery. Good charge. But hold on---didn't others here say all connections needed to be shiny clean?

Took off the battery cables and put new ends on. Replaced the cable from starter to the solenoid as it looked like it was from the beginning of time. Wire-brushed all terminals and connections.

Not only does the tractor start right up, it actually starts BETTER than it did before. I've never had it so good

Thanks, YT--and the members who made this quick repair possible.

The battery posts on my MF 50 gets gunky even with the cables off and it's in a barn. The NAA with the exact same battery (Walmart) parked beside it can stay connected for weeks and no problem. Both are on identical maintainers. The battery on the 50 has done this whether on dirt under an open shed, in the garage, or in the metal building. I just figure in time to clean the posts and cables before using it.

I like you refer to your Massey as she. Guy I used to work with also had Fergusons. He was always saying how he was up last night working on Fergie ! I told him I hope his wife didn't find out ! I showed him a picture of Fergie (the pop star) from google and he had a whole new image of working on Fergie ! lol.

LOL---I'll add this here, since you brought up using "she" to refer to Massey.

Without her, I wouldn't be able to bring home some of the auction buys I find. This is the $25 welder I posted about sometime back. Yes, they put it in the truck with a skid-steer at the auction grounds, but I knew Massey would be waiting at the other end>

"Go ahead, buy it! I'll help you unload!"

Yes! having a handy way to unload sure frees up the hand wave at auctions. So does taking a trailer long with you. If I am iffy about a large item at an auction I leave the trailer home, that way I only bid if I REALY want it,, LOL

When I buy a top post battery, I get a package of those felt washers chemically treated to prevent corrosion. One green and one red. I think they help. Hardly have a corroded connection at the battery end.

Thanks, I'll get a pack. Cheap protection for the battery.

I had this exact same problem on my WD. Turns out that my battery was bad, but I cleaned the contacts and found that the replacement battery cranked the tractor over better than any other time I could ever remember. Fortunately I snapped a before photo...
