NEW to this and first time tractor owner. I have 1948 Ford 8N front mount distributor converted to a 12 volt system. New wiring, coil, points, plugs, resistor, solenoid and battery. When i use my test light I get no juice to the alternator wire that is at the terminal block, no juice to key switch or no juice to the ballast resistor. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have voltage from the + post of the battery to ground?? First thing one should always check is that both battery cables are clean tight and bright at both ends of the cables. You may also have a simple bad ignition switch. Easy way to figure that out is a hot wire from the battery ignition side to coil. If it will run that way then problem is from the coil back to the battery wiring ,. One thing you did not say is if it will even turn over as in the starter work??

Yes to battery question. I used test light hooked to negative post and touched light to positive side of battery and light lit up. Yes tractor turns over when i depress starter switch.

In that case hot wire it. Run a wire from the + battery post to the coil and try to fire it up. It should run that way. If it does then you have a bad ignition switch which are known to be weak or a bad wire of wired wrong simple as that.

Don?t know how familiar you are with working on this kind of stuff, but to clarify the hot wire ...old... is suggesting should hook to the terminal on the coil that does not go to the distributor. And this is only intended as a temporary test connection.

Did you hot wire it as I sad to try?? If you did in theory it should start up and when hot wired unless you have a problem in the distributor. If it would help you can send me an e-mail and I'll give you my phone number so I can talk you threw how to find your problem. My e-mail is always open on here

If you touched test light leads to positive and negative posts, all you tested, was whether the battery was charged or dead. Unless I did not understand your post. I would recommend checking wires for being broken. Or terminals cruddy. I agree with whoever posted before me that recommded check ignition switch.

"New solenoid" When you replaced the solenoid did you forget to connect the charging wire that goes back through the ammeter? Wire from ammeter connects to hot battery post on the solenoid. With engine not running that is the source of power to the terminal block.
