John Deere 2550 hydraulic problems

When I crank my 2550 all hydraulics work fine. After using it discing or baling hay and it gets hotter, they get really slow. Lift will go down and I lose steering. I have to increase my rpms a lot for it to work. I replaced hydraulic pump, blew out the cooler, looked in hydraulic fill hole, and checked filter. Still have same problem. Can someone please help?

It's sad but true many hyd pumps have been replaced only to determine that the pump that was replaced was not the problem. Excessive heat indicates a high pressure internal leak. Which lift goes down? If it's the 3 pt then the 3 pt control valves are leaking or RS piston seal is faulty. Another source of hyd problems could possibly be the power steering valve. Does your tractor have hyd hi-lo &/or hyd ind pto? If so have you tested hyd's in both speeds plus with pto in both on & off?

. Which filter and did you check the screen ? Flow test the transmission pump ? Test pressure gauge on transmission line circuit ?

Type and brand of oil ?

I have the same tractor, and had a similar issue. Like these guys are saying, it could be a number of things and the only way to know is to start testing at different points. Mine ended up being the transmission pump, though that doesn't mean yours is.

I have a 2550 and it's always had trouble like that. I keeps getting a hyd leak in the rear somewhere. Last time it was leaking seals in the hi/low. Now it's in the pto clutch.

You really need to take to the dealer and have them diagnose it rather than bumbling around with it.

I'll bet there's a lot more knowledge on JD's closed center hyd system diagnostics on this discussion forum than at many JD service departments PLUS this site doesn't cost tractor owner $100 per hr for diagnostics

Excellent point, before considering taking it to a dealer you need to make sure they have a mechanic well versed in the closed center systems. Not all of them do.
On the other hand, not everyone has the tools to test everything properly, or the means to split the tractor if it ends up needing it. But I'd suggest trying to at least narrow it down with advice here before going to a dealer. I've gone that direction before, and the price tag was staggering. Though they had me up and running in a week and a half, even with major work needing done.
