OT Magnum PI show

(quoted from post at 10:25:12 09/25/18) Anyone watch the new Magnum PI show last night, the old series was one of my favorites.
ust isn't the same, is it? Maybe it will wear on me.......maybe not?

No I did not. Usually remakes are disappointing. That's all that is made now not many NEW shows are made.

My wife tells me all the time that I have to "suspend my disbelief" when I watch TV programs. For some reason, I can't. The previews that have been running for Magnum are so unbelievable I'm not interested in trying to watch it. NCIS is the worst. Their little 98 pound girls are constantly whipping up on 250 pound men. They throw them around like rag dolls. I can't take it. The shows are all fiction, but, please, there ought to be some slight semblance of reality!

I'm not a good fiction guy.

It was pathetic to say the least. All the stuff that made the original show unique is just being rehashed with a pc twist. Thomas Sullivan Magnum is a Latino? Tom Selleck fit the role and the show evolved around him, changing the ethnicity and genders of characters while adding more special effects is a weak attempt of bringing the show back.

We watched it. I was disappointed. Maybe it will get better, so I'll try it again. If it is not any better, We'll find something else to watch.

Its an attempt to make the show more politically correct. They killed the "regular white guy" in the first 15 minutes of the show. They have the black pilot, the gay night club operator, the hispanic PI and the female Brit who supposedly was in the SFSG and is somehow retired at age 30 to be the caretaker of an estate......

All I can say is that you could tell that some of the people that brought us the cinematic thriller "Fast and Furious" series are working on this show.

If they want to bring back a good series I say they bring back the Cosby Show.

Lots of action, not the same vibe as the original. Wife prefers Tom Selleck in that role, or any role! We'll give it another chance.

(quoted from post at 00:44:11 09/26/18) I won't be watching it. guess tv people can't do anything new.

Yup, same here. Desperate attempts to do a remake of an old idea always seem doomed to fail. MacGyver is another one that is so PC it's not funny... or interesting. Now they're bringing back Murphy Brown to try and make us trust the news? It was funny 30 years ago, but watching an ancient Candice Bergen spend every episode trashing anyone not 100% progressive is gonna get old real fast.

Nobody is going to replace Tom Selleck as Magnum and no one will replace John Hillerman as Higgins. It would be like trying to remake "The Quiet Man" minus Wayne, O'Hara, Fitzgerald and McLaglen. It just ain't gonna fly.

But they DID do a remake of "True-Grit" without Rooster Cogburn (John Wayne). It didn't work.

True, and it wasn't a bad movie at all. What it lacked was the humor of the first one. That and the fact Matt Damon pretty much ruined the movie. It's pretty sad when Glenn Campbell is a better actor! Had we not been familiar with Waynes True grit, the last one might have been received far better.
