We have bought a old Allis Chalmer B. Trying to find out the year and if anyone tell tell me what the rail bars are for on the side and what type of lift hitch we can get. Thanks so much

Troy If you look on the left hand side of this site you will see a column in blue letters, under the heading of research& info, is serial numbers. when you click on serial numbers, you will see Allis Chalmers, click on it and you will get the year range that applies to your serial numbers. You will find your B AC's serial number stamped on the top of the transmission, beside the shifter stick.

The serial number is stamped right in front of the shiftier and will start with a B. With that you can then go to research and info an click on serial number then the brand etc. and see where you number fits in. As for some sort of lift your options are very limited unless you can do things like I do. I built a 3 point for my C which is a lot like a B. I also built a front lift for my C

for the year, you need to post the serial number. it is located on top of the transmission case, to the rear of the shift lever. on my WC, the no is stamped crudely.
as far as the rails, picture would help. maybe cultivators?
lift hitch- you need someone more acquainted with Allis than I am.

Sounds like you might have a rare IB or industrial B that was made with a frame around the front.

Troy! I have no idea, what you mean when you ask about rail bars on a B, I have Bs Cs and CAs, but no rail bars! 3 pt. lifts will be after market, for the B, and can be found thru Tony's Tractors web site, or from other venders, including Work Saver.

Here are some pics. Having hard time uploading

Front view. I also posted serial number in a few pics I would to say thank you all so much for responding. We are looking to learn as much as we can and get this 80 year old Allis Chalmer all working in proper order and then parking in in December to start the restore. We hope to have it looking and running like new by April 2019.

If your torque tube has not been changed your B is a 1949 may be the rails were added for strength between the engine and torque tube. Randy

Dad had a AC B. It was probably about 20 or 30 years old when he brought it home. Nice paint, mounted plow, cultivators, rear drag. He bought an older one with mid mount sickle bar mower. Sold the tractor, kept the mower. It was a very nice tractor that I would pay a lot for today.

That is NOT an IB that I thought you might have found. It is just a plain B. And in your pictures I cannot see those parts you are asking about.

Just a small part of the cultivator still bolted fast. the drawbar bolts to the final drives and looks like this below.

Thanks. Very much. Do you have any idea what year it My be. And where is the best place to buy a used one ?? Also is it a 3 point or snap lift hitch. Or would it be better to try and install a retro 3 point
Thanks Troy

Click on GO at the hop to another board, then click on Allis Chalmers. You will find the serial numbers in the left column showing the year for your number.

Most areas have farm tractor used parts yards. Ebay is a place to look but most of the parts on there must be plated with gold under the dirt.

I just got back to the puter, this evening, and found all the helpful posts you received. The pictures you posted are very helpful! No matter which route, you decide to go. on a hitch, you will need the drawbar, which will be the shorter one that Dick L posted a picture of. The B is narrower than the C which is probably the longer drawbar, that Dick L showed in the picture. You asked how the poster knew ,that your tractor is a 49. according to the YT serial number list, the AC B's serial numbers, started in 1949, with serial number 92295, and in 1950 they started with 102393. Your number falls between the two numbers, meaning yours was built in 1949, before the larger number , that began in 1950. You also are missing the belt pulley, but would probably never use it, if you had it. The vinyl seat ,and seat back is not original, but for me it would be a welcome addition. Those rails would be a good place, to mount a useable tool box, and also a U shaped step for mounting ,and dismounting the tractor. I dislike the small round toolbox that was provided. Enjoy your little work horse!

Very. Ice to meet you. I thank you so very much. I will be looking for a draw bar now and also looking around on the correct hitch unit to get the 3 pt installed and working. I would like to find out if I can add a second hydraulic shaft also. I see the pin where it would be installed. Yes the seat is very comfy as we do plan to use this tractor on the farm. I do not know what you meant about the ugly toolbox. Where is that at in any of my pics. Thanks again

Years ago when I built it I posted pictures but with the computer I have now it is very hard to me to load pictures so I don't do it any more. What I built was a copy of the snow plow lift that was made for the B and C but I added improvements by having 6 places to put the cylinder and also an extendable lift arm.

While the poster's here are great. You should post to the allis chalmers subforum. Those guys live and breathe allis. That is not a put down. That is their passion. Also if you identify which part of KY, they could point you to junkyard in MO,IN, TN,OH, and other surrounding states that are closer than from one end of KY to the other. If you are really lucky someone there might have what you want to buy. Good luck.
