something strange in radiator

I saw something today that I had never seen before, a strange looking substance in a tractor radiator, looked lika a gluey substance and a lot of it like it was put in to stop a bad leak somewhere. Does anyone have any idea or ever saw anything like it before. Kind of a grey glue stuff and lots of it

NO telling what mix of "stop leak" products the P.O. (or the guy(s) before him may have dumped in there.

Even three or four brands and remedies might combine. Or it might be oil/coolant mix into baby poop. Jim

sounds like a lot of oil in the water if you ever had a 477 or 534 Ford gas engine you saw that a lot

you have other problems as that will not overheat the engine as you can run 20-30 oi9l in the cooling system and it will work just fine

Doesn't matter what you put in if the tubes are all plugged up with goop... It ain't gonna cool.

You gotta get the goop out somehow, or replace the radiator. Hard to find a radiator shop with a hot tank anymore due to EPA, but if you have one, they're your best bet.

Sounds like Bars Leak. Had a guy bring me his M once that was running hot. Said he put that stuff in there because his radiator was leaking. Those little pellets got packed in the water pump and wouldnt flow coolant.

Whatever it is, it needs to be flushed out.

If it is too thick to circulate through the radiator, it will overheat.

You could try removing the thermostat so water will circulate freely, start it up, bring the RPM up some, open the drain valve and feed water in with the hose. Once it is circulating, add some Dawn dish soap, let it circulate then flush again, may need several repeats. Once flushed put the thermostat back in, run water only for a test period, see what happens. If diesel don't run it under heavy load until the proper coolant is replaced.

If it was an overdose of stop leak, the leak will probably return but the goo will be gone.

If it is oil the problem will slowly return.

If overheating continues it could be a head gasket or cracked head.

Is there any evidence of water in the oil? Condensation under the oil cap, in the dipstick tube?

Typical sources of oil in the coolant are failed oil cooler, head gasket leaking where oil galley to the rockers passes through, cracked block in rare cases.

I would like to know what "gluey" and "gray gluey substance" mean. It sounds like you will take no answer that does not agree with it being glue.

There is such a thing as anti-freeze gel. It is used in water-cooled motorcycles and such. The gel supposedly becomes liquid at a certain temperature.

I think someone put some kind of stop leak or sealer to seal a leak ?.maybe in block to get rid of tractor
