Most amazing half scale ever

You have to see this one, especially anybody with machining experience. There was a two part article about it in Hart Parr Oliver Collector Magazine. It's an Oliver 1655. He had all the castings poured, machined them, made all the internals. The only thing he bought were the tires, muffler, distributor cap and sediment bowl. He even made the carburetor and gauges to half size. You have to see this one to believe it. Yes,it runs.

Wow, that's quite an accomplishment!

He has to have a lifetime of experience and favors to call on to use the necessary equipment.

Still, has to have cost him a lot of money!

Wonder what it would sell for to the right person?

(quoted from post at 16:07:37 09/07/18) pretty neat just goes to show what time and money can accomplish
f I had 10 million dollars, and 30 years, I could not do this. I think you forgot to mention talent

What an incredible piece of jewelry. Wonder if he ever thought of selling a kit with all of the parts. Bet there might be enough hobby nuts that would buy them.

Goes without saying. The magazine article shows a lot of the individual parts. The carb float for instance laying next to a quarter. They show the transmission with the top off. I've been inside those things,it looks absolutely like the real thing.

Yes, truly AMAZING!!

It's too bad someone with deep pockets wouldn't start up a company building such 1/2-scale tractors. Would put a huge hurt on the lawn mower industry! ...IF they could build enough to get/keep the cost down. His certainly must've cost a fortune to build.

It'd be pretty tough to ride on that one. Even the seat and steering wheel are half scale. He said he has 30 hours in the steering wheel and two months in the seat and seat suspension.

Thanks, I feel really stupid! It would take me 4 yrs. to make the gas cap & it probably wouldn't fit.

Loved it! I dreamed of making a half size 77. I even did some half drawings on my drafting table to make the tub. I would guess around 50 years back. I didn't have the money back then to make belt buckle let a lone a tractor.

Randy that guy sure does have a boat load of talent. I am guessing he is/was an engineer or machinest, or both. What I really thought was neat is that it is so close in detail to the original. Lots of times people do this and miss some things. Not this guy ! The only thing that looked a little different were the front rims. I liked it a lot ! I want a 1750 ! I'm sure you want one of maybe your 1850 ? We could place our order together ! Lol !

I enjoy scaled down units..no matter what brand they are, it takes a lot of skill to make one...

My goodness me ! The man has time, skills and equipment and funds. I just can't fathom WHY. Thanks for the link.

Quite an engineer and fabricator. I wonder what other profession he had.

Walt Ferguson took pictures that were on YT Mag of an A John Deere and a Farmall F20 or 30, that Bob Thomas hand made from Orick, MO. He did say that the A had the lever for high and low but did not have the gears. He goes to the Boone Valley show and others with his bibs on. I invited him to come to Rantoul several years ago but he had other shows to go to and said he was too old to travel that far.

Super nice fellow.

I found a 3 minute interview on it, his dad and brother was an Oliver dealer and the boys all were mechanics, he is a machinist now and so did this for a hobby.

Not all that far away in my state, Minnesota.

He lives about 15 minutes from me. A great guy helped me with the correct gear pitch and teeth I needed to speed up my R Moline pulling tractor. His brother Barry has pretty amazing things he's built too.

He said he made seven hoods before he got one he was satisfied with. Three carb tops to get one right. He said he broke a drill bit off in one and couldn't get it out, then broke a tap in the second one.

WOW! What a talented guy. I would have liked to have seen it for the first time out in a hay field just sitting there, then all of a sudden a giant of a man walks up to it. That would have been funny.

WOW - That video really puts things into prospective, even after reading the article !!!
Thanks for posting Randy
