Never Would Have Believed It could Be That Much Work

I thought I had 10 or so bales to bale which is what I got off the second cutting off the same area. I see it was going to be more when I raked it around 10 am yesterday. I baled it around 5 pm yesterday when it was still 90? with the heat index at 97?. I got 27 bales dropping them on the ground and started picking them up with the loader and putting them in the horse trailer after cooling off in the house for a half hour where I see rain head out way on the radar. It was 8:30 pm by the time I had them in the trailer and back in the house soaked with sweat. I brought 2 bales at a time from the field to the trailer behind the house. I scoop up one bale on the go with the loader bucket and lift one bale on top of the one in the bucket. Bales around 40 pounds which is almost my limit to lift anymore.

Start to finish should have been an easy hour job. Set in my easy lift chair after I was done wondering how this all came about. Setting on the tractor watching the windrow going into the baler and hearing the knotters tie a bale every little bit and see them on the ground I felt like I did a 15 when I took over Dads custom baling. Five hours later feeling like I was 90 years old ready for a nursing home.

Good thing is I woke up this morning no worse for the wear and ready to get after what ever is ahead for the day.

I'm not too far from you Dick. It was downright hot and humid yesterday. I didn't do much of anything outside. I'm glad you beat the rain and are no worse for the wear. Today is looking a lot better temp wise.

I have the She Shed drywall on/up and taped. I am on the third pail of mud. the ceiling is done except for feathering out over the tape around the edge. Some small areas of the walls are almost ready for primer. I can't put enough pressure on the trowel to make it slick smooth. I have to sand down and then fill the divots and go back and sand. I can only make three or four passes above my head until I have to set in the wheelchair for a bit. I call it my thinking time. That is where I think of ways I can work without actually working. That is how you take an hour to do a five minute job.

And meanwhile in Ohio many of the schools CLOSED because it was too hot ! How are any of the up and coming going to be able to work anywhere but in an A/C office ?

Age has its disadvantages! I thought I put this in Tales!

I didn't know that schools were closed because of the heat! You are correct. My step Son from Texas was here last year in July when it was in the 90's and couldn't stand the heat trying to help me. He lives in the air conditioning in Texas as a Professor.

Dick L,

I so get that. I've been on oxygen a couple of years and it's really frustrating to feel as good as ever to start out and after only a few minutes feel like you've put in a full day of work. I've adopted your method of going for a very few minutes and re-couping for several. You do what you can,,,,,, gm

Good for you! I have had relatives in your condition and took to not doing anything. I don't think they ever actually enjoyed working or finding pleasure in it.

ahh C'mon , Cow boy UP !,. you are talking squares right ?,Unless You are talkin big monster squares, . You all sound like a bunch of sissies that would have got laughed off this board just 20 yrs ago ,I know IT IS HOT, but , wth , ,i pik up hay by myself on a quick carry all that will hold 18 bales ,on the back of my Yanmar i walk beside and guide knock them off at the barn next to the elevator and go after 6 more loads before breakfast,.btw , I have neurothapy in my legs and feet from Chemotherapy i took to beat stage 3 cancer 2 yrs ago.
