Hood modification

Check out somebody?s handy work on the hood, shame to butcher one up like this

Just went through this with a D15 Diesel this week. The guy had cut away the sheet metal so he didn't have to lift the hood over the muffler. Problem is, when you damage the integrity of the hood and then run it that way for who knows how many years, it gets so warped and twisted, it eventually won't fit. That's how mine was when I got it. I had to bring it back to true (actually as close as I could get it) and then weld the piece back in. Still not happy with it but at least it fits now.

Pretty tractor grizz, my uncle had one of those Dexter Fords when I was a boy, liked driving it. When he passed away I thought I was supposed to have first shot at buying it but his daughter sold it before my aunt mentioned I had spoken for it

The flaws don't show in the photo. I'm not skilled enough to get it to show quality, but a real metal worker would. I'd purchased the tractor thinking I could use D14 hoods (which I have spare ones that were perfect), only to find out they aren't the same size. I'd just come back from the shop working on it and saw your thread, appropriate timing.

That minute with a cutting torch cost me many hours to fix. But of course he was trying to get on with a job, and I'm having fun.

Dexter is a miniature black cow. The tractor is a Dexta. And not a Dextra. Not usually a spelling Nazi, but the Dexta (and all its variations) is one of my pet peeves.

I have a dexta with the vertical exhaust. I'm not sure how it's supposed to be, but my muffler just slips over a stub and sits there. It's not clamped. If you want to open the hood, just lift the muffler off and set it to the side.

You get a little different slant on things when you're retired. If its hot, go in the house and have a cup of coffee, and be glad for the opportunity.

Come to the Heart of Dixie, you will have a lot of pet peeves with language, we speak and spell English in its truest form down here, ain?t no need to get your pantys in a wad my friend, lol

Thanks for the offer, I will after the morning's work. YT is still driving me for the moment ;).

Here we go, got another spell checker. Southerners don?t care how it?s spelled, we go on the pronunciation
