Leaking gas tank for 1938 JD-B

The gas tank for my 1938, JD-B is weeping/leaking. How can I solve that issue? Does someone sell replacement tanks? Or, can the inside of the tank be sealed w/something and if so, is that effective long-term?

Thanks!

20 Years ago I had issue trying to seal up a tank by soldering. I think its the best but just could not get the leaks stopped so I bought some PRO-15 Fuel tank sealer. I think I bought a kit with cleaner and it was enough for two fuel tanks. So I did two. I have not had an issue with either since.

Another thing sealer will do is stop the rust particles else where on the tank from breaking free and plugging up the fuel lines.

This stuff works good and is reasonably priced. Available from the manufacturer (see link below) or any good auto restoration shop or on Ebay, etc. Vintage car guys use it quite a bit. Single component and you can pour off the unused liquid back into the can and use it later. Minimum tank preparation necessary. Another good one (similar) is a product called Red Kote.

I've had good luck with ribbon epoxy. Knead the blue and yellow strips until it's green, then work it into the hole like chewing gum with your thumb.

About 20 years ago I used KREME to coat the tank on my '48 JD-B. It's still leak free and the coating still looks good. Preparation is the key to success.

Agree.

Removed the tank from "Uncle Earl" our 39B.

Took it to a "[i:654c4848f0]reputable[/i:654c4848f0]" radiator shop and had it repaired.

Especially on those outlet fittings a tank liner will not hold as it will crack inside from the torque and still leak ! I had to pull a tank 2 x for that lesson. LOL.
