Thing is if it's his/her tractor whatever color they picked is correct cause they only have to make him/herself happy.

Now that ain't saying you can't hate it. You can, but unless you buy it it ain't your tractor. Can it effect the price when it's sold ? Sure. But seeing as it's a David Brown I'll bet that paint increases the value! :D

Went to look at an Oliver 550 one time- the guy had painted it JD green and yellow- he thought it was real clever. I took one look and said "I wanted an Oliver, not a John Deere." and started walking back toward my truck. He said "It is an Oliver." I replied "Then you should have painted it like one." and left. I probably didn't ruin the rest of his life, but losing a possible sale did give him something to think about.

Lots of people like to make their own JD think I've seen just about every brand painted like a JD over the years.Wouldn't bother me I buy tractors based on mechanical condition and what use they can have for me on the farm and any paint no matter the color is better than the tractor being rusted up.

If I needed it for light jobs on the farm it?s reliable and in excellent condition as long as I knew upfront that paint scheme wouldn?t bother me. That being said if it was me investing the money in the paint and time to do it I?d select the proper colours.

Construction companies routinely paint tractors in their ? fleet ? colour scheme . When I was a kid , there was a custom operator that painted all his equipment Oliver green. He would buy a brand new tractor or combine, take them into his shop , and paint them Oliver green.

I don't think there is much collector demand for David Brown 880's, so the different colors don't really hurt it any. It looks like it has been maintained and is in better condition than most working (1960's?) utility tractors.

For sure I do not care for using another brands color,, as far as a DB I would take one over any green one any day or red for that matter, nothing compares to them for fuel economy and long life we sold LOTS of DB's every year from 1971 through 76 when Dad sold out,, many are still in the original family's today,, I have tried to buy a couple of them back but they will not even talk about letting them go,, my uncle still uses the 990 my dad bought new in 1965 and sold to the uncle in 1966

Question nothing to do color but a DB question. Will a David Brown 780 diesel motor fit into a DB 4600 tractor with a gas motor in it now? I have both complete tractors to get parts.

Boy that is one I have not tried ,, possible for sure you might want to ask on the Case page here a guy on there who knows the answer I am sure sorry

My neighbor has a White that he's in the process of painting black. I like it. Our wives fail to see the humor.

If it was Oliver green with Clover White wheels and a red belly,it might be acceptable, but that's just plain ugly.

Dad claimed Ford took their blue paint idea from him. He had some left over blue paint and painted a 9N in the late 50s.

There can be some pretty mural artwork done I would like.

And I?d understand some hot rod accents if that is your thing, not mine, but I would ?get? it.

I get the painting a color for a cause stuff, tho actually I don?t care for it, I understand it.

I can understand a bad sense of humor and paint your JD M in IHC colors, and your IHC M in JD colors....l I wouldn?t wan5 to own them then, but I would appreciate the joke.

And folk can do what they wish with their stuff.

But to me that sure seems dumb, using a different brand color pattern. If my opinion matters, it makes the owner look too dumb to know what a tractor is.

I seen at a show one time where a guy painted a farmall h green and yellow and parked it by the other farmalls all red and the guys with the farmalls got after him to get it out of there that it wasn't funny to do that so I thought they were jerks about it. Then the guy move it over by the john deere guys only to find out that there was some deere guys getting after him about it. Later when we were leaving I seen the tractor sitting on the trailer he had. Iv seen a lot of tractors painted all colors some with an old barn brush an the guys were happy about there paint job. This guy did a really nice job on the h only to find out that as a joke it wasn't funny to some people.

I've seen way too many of those and was gonna get revenge by painting a 1020 Deere Meadow Green and Clover White if I hadn't traded it for my Oliver 500 gas. I had Oliver tags for the tractor and engine,a keystone emblem for the front and all. I even had a good story I was going to tell about the 1010 and 2010s being such a disaster that Deere went to Oliver wanting to buy utility tractors from them and that mine was just the Oliver version. I've still got the parts. If I get bored and get a chance to buy another 1020 cheap,I might still do it. Don't ever let me retire or this'll be the kind of things you'll get. LOL

"Painting a tractor the wrong color " , has anyone seen a John Deere painted the wrong color? Red and silver. Flambeau red. Blue. Minn mo yellow.

I haven't either.

(quoted from post at 08:26:52 09/04/18) Question nothing to do color but a DB question. Will a David Brown 780 diesel motor fit into a DB 4600 tractor with a gas motor in it now? I have both complete tractors to get parts.

It will drop right in.

About 30 years ago I saw a late John Deere B painted in IH colors. The show was either at Eagle, TN or Adams, TN. There was a Farmall H painted in JD colors at the same show, but they were not displayed together. Both tractors were in the parade.

Both tractors were well done, but I was more accepting of the red and silver JD B than the green and yellow Farmall H.

Our neighbor used to have an Allis Chalmers B that was painted green and yellow with JD decals. He had a Woods mower on it and used it to mow his lawn.

Another neighbor was proud of his Irish heritage and also had a green Allis Chalmers. That one was all green and it didn't look like JD green.

See my reply below. I was REAL close to having one Oliver green. It'll happen yet of I get bored and find another one to do it to.

A friend of mine sells equipment around Lexington Kentucky. He sells to one of the BIG fancy horse farms. Something like 10-15 tractors each year. They want them all painted bright red. Their colors are white barns and fences with all the barn roofs painted red. He sells JD and they have used JD tractors since the two cylinder days. On the 5000 & 6000 series tractors he can order them in the color they want. They have some 7000 series and those the dealership has to paint.

This farm has one owner JD two cylinders that where painted red at Waterloo.

SO you can get any color you want if you have the GREEN to pay for it. LOL

My neighbor has four JD Ls or LAs, each painted a different color from the factory. Our MI came out yellow, has been green my whole lifetime, maybe since new.

Since the correct paint nor any paint of any color will not make anything run or work any better, it is often only a concern of the "correct police".
