Not the most efficient way to feed pigs...

Floodgate washed out and the neighbors cattle ended up in my corn. They didn’t do much damage, but did knock down a few stalks. I picked up an armful of ears and threw them to my sounder of swine. Hate to waste corn that’s worth $10 per bushel, you know...

I remember going out in the field old ford falcon and cutting a trunkfull of stalks
with a machete. I was ten at the time. I wonder what would be said if you had a kid do
that now days.

(quoted from post at 18:35:59 09/01/18) I will sell you ALL my corn for that price, let's get that signed.

You need an organic inspection, paperwork, and certificate to get that price. I'm guessing yours won't pass inspection. My corn looks at least as good as the neighbors. Well, except the bottom. Giant ragweeds got away from me. Gonna pull my average down.

B&D,

I liked the term "sounder" better than a team or passel. Suppose "Passel of Pigs" would work too, but I'm gonna stick with "Sounder of Swine"

(quoted from post at 20:24:47 09/01/18) Mine is waxy GMO.

If you are growing organic, how are your yields?

I've estimated it to be 125-150 bu/a. State average is 174 and my county's average is 202, but there's much better ground south of me. This farm is 180 tillable in 42 fields. I run 120 foot contours, when my FIL had the place, he was on 80s and he had nearly 100 fields...

I put down 4 tons of poultry litter from an organic barn up in Blue River. $160 an acre for 160 units worth of nitrogen. I have weeds for sure, but I am learning. Hopefully next year will be better. I have an idea for a cultivator I want to build next year.
