1993 Belarus 825 Power Steering

I have to continually turn the steering wheel to the left to keep the tractor straight. It has hydrostatic steering. I can see the steering cylinder while driving it and it appears to back off on the pressure allowing the tractor to drift right.

Would this be a worn out steering cylinder, a bad steering pump or some other sticking valve issue? I noticed on the parts sites, the steering pump is a common part purchased. Seems like something is permitting the fluid to flow back or bypass.

I have cleaned out the screen in the pump and changed the fluid. Lines seem to be open, but it still does it.

I suspect you need to look at the steering valve since this is what transfers the fluid from the pump to the cylinder. The steering valve is on the bottom of the steering column, with all the hydraulic lines going in/out. Sounds like the steering valve is bleeding pressure to one side making it turn right, not sure if its a stuck valve, bad seal or some other mechanical fault inside the unit.

Thanks for the response. I'll take a look. I am not finding a parts listing for ahe steering valve. Only seem to list the pump for the tractor. I am wondering if it may be integral to the pump.

I would also check the steering cylinder internal seals.

Disconnect and cap one line. Block the cylinder from moving, start the engine and turn the wheel to pressure the cylinder against the block. Once all the slack is out and the cylinder can't move, there should be no oil coming from the open port.

Thanks. Are these all the same steering pump as in the Danfoss link? From what I can tell, the pump sits relatively close to the steering wheel. Looks like access to it is from inside the cab, possibly.

I'll test the cylinder this afternoon.

No,what you have pictured is the hydraulic pump itself. That bolts on the engine, and gives you your pressure and flow.Doubt if that's your issue. The part I linked you to is also called a pump, but it's the actual valve that goes on the bottom of your steering column. I don't know if that is your problem without troubleshooting. I have an 820 that steers extremely hard to the left, same Danfoss steering, haven't figured mine out yet,but i'm leaning towards that valve I linked you to.

Just as a test, I reversed the steering hydraulic lines to flow it through the steering cylinder the opposite direction. When driving, the steering is reversed, of course, but, now, to keep it aligned, and to offset the drifting, I must turn the wheel to the right instead of the left. As the fluid is going through the steering valve in the same direction as before, would this mean that the faulty part is likely a leaky steering cylinder?

I think it may be that the axle width was adjusted out, but the steering cylinder was not re centered to match the width, so it is pulling it back. I think the cylinder may need to slide over to the next hole over, or I need to adjust the tire/axle width to match the current location.
