grandson mde me proud

After me owning a 30-60 Aultman Taylor tractor for the last 45 years, I gave it to my 11 year old Grandson, he drove it in the County Fair Antique parade, I adjusted the clutch so he could engage it. There were 139 more tractors in the parade. I sure was proud of him, a 70 pound 11 year old driving a 100 year old tractor weighing about 26,000 pounds. He had the biggest grin of any of the drivers.

Drum or square firebox? Would love to see a couple pics. Bet that did put an ear to ear grin on his face!

The tractor is a 1385 cubic inch 4 cylinder, it has 588 feet of 2 inch tubing in the ROUND radiator. I bought it for scrap iron price in 1973, after 30 minutes tinkering with the magneto and some fresh gas, it was driven on the Low Boy trailer. I could tell stories about the fun we have had over the years, but I don*t want to bore you.

And it will be with him the rest of his life. Who knows what that incident may do in the future to help him to decide on a positive course of action to make something of himself. You never know.

I certainly remember my parade participations and surely wasn't as stellar as that. What I do remember are my marching band days and in one instance, my sister and I were in a borrowed '49 Green Dodge P/U that dad was driving with a Reserve Grand Champion steer he had purchased in a trailer behind it and she and I were fighting over who was going to sit next to the window.......she won. Grin.

One of those marching band days was in San Antonio, Tx., year was 1955, and I saw my first '55 Chevy V8, a 2 door sedan painted Salmon and Grey. To this day I still think Chevy in the 3 year'55-57 made some gorgeous cars......and that little 265, 3 on the tree, in 2nd winding out with a pair of glass packs.......still gives me goose bumps. I never had the money to buy one......just "Lusted in my Heart" (Jimmy Carter) for one.

Well in fact I do have one of the series, a Turquoise and White (my favorite of the series so that's the color I painted it, seats, dash, and steering wheel to match.....as was the custom of the day) '57 convertible with the Continental Kit and fender skirts........in 1/25 scale..........
