Been to tractor supply

Our daughter used to work in Pontiac,Illinois. They had a big r. It's so much better than what we have around here, bomgaars, tsc, and orscheln's. We always had a big list when we visited her.

I went to TSC the other day, first time in a couple years.

I was pleased to see they had the bolt department back! There for a while they had gotten rid of most of the bolts, just kept an assortment of carriage bolts, lag bolts and ungraded junk bolts.

They must have gotten a lot of complaints, or new management, they had the grade 8's back, a good assortment of others, metrics...

Best of all, they sell them by the pound! No sorting and looking up prices!

Interesting. Down here a bit further in Central IL we have Farm & Home Supply, Big R, and Buccheits to fit those farm niches. Not sure how far out you have to go to find maybe a Rural King/Farm King or Blain's Farm & Fleet. Have bought or ordered from all of them at one time or another. Got tired of disappointment from Tractor Supply probably 6 or 7 years ago.

This one has a lot of bolts and quite a few farm parts and my all time favorite Is the magazine rack I don?t very often go to tsc because it?s a long drive and I have bomgarrs 20 minuets away and the have a lot more parts than tsc . Had a neat book that has everything under the sun but unfortunately it?s all on line now 😡😡

There are several TSC stores around my area the one that's about 5 miles away has always had a very large section of bolts and fastners, what each store carries is dependent on what sells there.

Thankfully the new Rural King opened here last Saturday and I no longer have reason to darken the doors of our local mismanaged TSC

TSC doesn't have everything you'd ever need on a farm but they have more farm related items than any other store in my area and at a lot more reasonable price than the coops and
tractor dealerships.Plus if you need a hydraulic hose on a Saturday afternoon where else do you go? Don't understand all the TSC bashing.

I wish TSC was more of a farm supply store, but up here it's TSC or make a drive to Walmart. That's pretty much your 2 choices. On weekend or after 5PM you aren't going to anything remotely farm related because the tractor dealers and hardwares are closed. TSC ain't all that bad.

Hello 'Iowa John'. Do you live near Indianola, Iowa? Central Tractor still exists there; years ago that was TSC's competitor. It's on the way to my daughter/grandkids place near Liberty Center and I have NEVER paid the catalog price when I've walked in the door. It's under the name 'nnalert' now and they do manufacture parts there, along with having a good stock of parts for older machinery.

Our TSC is mostly a Toys and Clothes store. They do stock a very similar line of tools and hardware as the Canadian Tire stores, or Lumber yards. Lots of home owner stuff, like patio sets, BBQ?s and other garden supplies. Farmers buy farm stuff at equipment dealerships.

In Flagstaff we have a TSC and a Cal Ranch. In Cortez we have an IFA and a Big R. I like the IFA over all of them but use them all depending where I am at the time.

Rural King came to Litchfield, IL and the TSC soon closed. In Greenville, IL we have Buchheit and it is pretty gppd.

TF, they want a store that will cater to only farmers with box store pricing. Ain't gonna happen. Just not enough farmers anymore. TSC has done what it has to just like Mills Fleet Farm did to stay in business. In our area according to a local historian in 1970 about 70% of the folks here were farmers or worked in AG related jobs. It's now about only about 15%. The stores had to change to stay in business. Bring back all the small family farms and related jobs and the store would change again.

Really TSC has more farm related supplies than any tractor dealership hands down, more the coops overall because they are a bigger store. My local TSC has
Huge selection of bolts,hardware etc
Oils of all types for anything
Hydraulic hoses and fittings
Fertilizer,lime
Seeds
chicks,ducks
Wire fencing and gates large selection
Stock tanks
Cattle and Corral panels
3pt equipment including tiller,post hole diggers,middle busters,blades,rotary cutters
Tractor carb kits,sediment bulbs,fuel line,filters,mufflers
3pt pins,bushings,toplnks,lift arms
Animal feed and minerals for about any domestic animal
Chainsaws,saw chain,bars etc
Work gloves of all types
Load binders, chain of all sorts and description
trailer hitch,balls,lights etc
pipe fittings,plumbing supplies
Baler twine
work clothes
boots
welding supplies
probably more I can't think of sounds like a pretty decent farm store to me.

That?s how the ones around here are . Are they going to have every part for every piece of equipment ever ? No but neither is anybody else

Guess I wasn't clear. The guys complaining want a store with nothing but farm stuff and any clothing items have to be like work stuff. Guess they don't want to sully themselves by being around non far people. I never said they didn't carry any AG related items.

Kinda funny though. People want competitive pricing while shopping someplace that would at best only sell to the local area farmers? Guys, go out and count how many farms are in your area. They would have a customer base nation wide of about 2.5 million people. Prices would have to go up to cover they days that no one shopped cause they were all in the field planting or making hay. You guys should be happy they carry farm related stuff at all.

I'm farther west near Harlan. Seems like several years ago I picked up a hyd pump at a central tractor around Des Moines. I've gotten to using surplus center in Lincoln for alot of my hyd needs.

Tractor supply is great if all you need is small bolts and nuts but if you need say 3/4" on up your out of luck. Menards and Lowes is just as bad. I have an Ace hardware store that handle large bolt and if they don't have them they can order them which the big box stores can't.

Don't understand all the TSC bashing.

Because it's *TRACTOR* Supply. They're not allowed to sell anything else, according to some people. They're supposed to circle the toilet sticking to their original business plan from 70 years ago instead of changing with the times.

Sears did that. How'd it work out for them? News flash: Not so well.

How about we beat on Walmart for a while, for not selling walls?

Agri supply is the closest thing to a farm
box store in the southeast (VA, NC, SC,
GA). Tillage parts, sprayer parts,
hardware by the pound, and whole goods
also. I do not work for them but I do
suppprt them financially!

Ifa is a great store here for horse tack and feed and fence spicing wire and other fencing stuff and garden seed and nice clothes . They carry no oil and no hardware

That?s ok lll buy his share . I don?t subscribe to farm show or heritage iron I?ve got enough magazines that come already and between that and my regular study I don?t have enough time for any more

I like that they sell bolts by the pound. I try and buy a pound every time I go in there to keep a good inventory of common bolts (1/4x20, etc). I've got a TSC about 2 miles from my house. It's not the most heavily stocked place but good for hitch pins, fence supplies, implements, etc. Just bought a landscape rake there last week.

You try to find a 7/16" bolt and they have none. That is a size I use a lot of. Rural King carries them. And they are 20 cents a pound higher than Rural King. Both have quit having just about any farm repair parts except sprayers or pto shafts. Have 6 TSC within 25 mile of me but for what I need that is mostly bolts I go the 50 mile to Rural King.

It?s gteting to where ?well it?s to new we don?t stock parts for that or well it?s to old we don?t stock parts for that ? at the local fix it again tony cnh dealer so places like tsc and bomgarrs get a lot of my trade
