air conditioning question

I am rebuilding the ac on my nh speedrower and can I replace the old york compressor with any compressor, what is the difference in the compressors? Changing to 134 do I need to change out the drier and expamsion valve,Thanks

That's where the one I got for my 2-105 a few weeks ago came from originally, but they'll refer you to a dealer. They don't sell retail to the general public.
There's a 1 year warranty on their stuff, but yes, only if you put a new filter/drier and expansion valve on it. The total on mine with the Sanden style compressor, mounting bracket, expansion valve and drier with shipping came to just a hair over $500.

Thanks for the info i was wondering if i could use the compressor off my 84 Ford pickup it is a different compressor but will it work

I would not recommend it.

One thing you want to avoid is contaminating the system with dirt, moisture, and above all shrapnel from a failed compressor.

The new compressors are much better than the old ones as far as longevity and leak resistance. There are also displacement differences. R134 is an unforgiving refrigerant, everything needs to be sized correctly and compatible. That's why buying through a supplier that can match everything is the best solution. The initial investment will be more, but a much better chance it will work properly and dependably when done.

Just curious- why are you changing compressor? Is it bad? If so - you can change it with a "Tecumseh" which is a more rugged application- set up for 134A ; If the York is still good you can change the oil and reuse the dryer -....change the orifice tube (or expansion valve)....charge and get er done! (Poorboy AC overhaul) which many will not agree with!

I replaced a compressor on an old GMC new compressor (same style), new air dryer, used 134A bought conversion kit to adapt fittings, worked fine. Both refrigerants work on the same principal.

(quoted from post at 06:00:44 08/22/18) Look up AP air. They have kits and if they do not show anything call them and they can help you out. Good people tod eal with.

Whut he said... York are any york style compessor is not a good choice are the one off a 84 ford truck either.. AP offers conversion compressors that are more robust normally there kit would come with a Saden compressor.

You did not say which year/model speedrower you have.

The main thing I found when converting is as follows:

1. The condenser and evaporator have to be purged or cleaned to remove the mineral base oil. The old type oil is incompatible with 134A.

2.Flexible hoses need to be checked and cleaned if they are over 8-10 years old especially if they are constantly exposed to sunlight.

3. Replace all of the o-rings. Some of the older o-rings may not be compatible with 134a and oil.
