HP required for smaller seeder

Not sure where to post.
I have a well-running 1720 New Holland tracter rated about 28 HP. Wondering if it will handle something like the Brillion SSPT-604 Seeder. This is a 5-0 seeder working with the PTO.
Thanks in advance. Slim

It's not the pony power it's the weight as they are a rolling load with vary little drag. So if ya can lift it fully loaded and handle the weight your are fine .

That's exactly right. I pulled a 10' behind a Jubilee Ford for many years with no problem. Difference was, it had transport wheels, so the 3-point capacity didn't come into play.

I sold them new,, and kept the last one I had in for a few years one time we used my unlce's 8N on it seemed to work fine,, the 1720 should lift it ok I would think as I sold a guy a new 1700 that used a Danuser F8 with a 24" auger on it to plant trees,, he would stick it in the ground then pull the 3pt lever till the front wheels was 3 feet off the ground then drop the 3pt and catch it pulling a "Plug" of dirt out,, how that unit took his abuse I will never know lol

I think Tractor Vet has the right answer. We have a something similar, a Frontier CS1384 Conservation Seeder (7' wide) that JD says 50 HP required. We use it on a 2WD JD 4240 with 8 suitcase weights on the front. When the seeder is fully loaded, you still need to be very careful or you will pick the front end of the tractor off the ground. Hanging that much weight out behind the tractor can be dangerous without a lot of ballast.

How many Lbs. of seed does it hold and how heavy is that thing? Went on tractor data and see the 1720 lifts 1742 lbs. on the 3-point.

I used that very same seeder on a Ford 1920 for years. Your issue will be lifting it in regard to 3 point lift capacity and then keeping the front end on the ground for steering and stability concerns. My 1920 always had a loader on it for curing the teeter totter issues. In some ways your 1720 will work better as it is narrower so can get closer to the edge of where you want to plant. Eventually the brushes inside the seed box will need to be replaced.
