Pulling apart a sticking spool valve

Bought a new old stock sectional valve to add to a bank, got it all installed and hooked up linkage and promptly find the spool is taking 50 lb to overcome the friction and move vs 5 lb on its neighbours. I left it in place hoping some of the protective oil had leaked into the spool body and dried causing the problem but no luck.

Any other tricks before I risk scoring it pulling it out of the bore and cleaning it up?

Was very careful assembling, clean and even. Other two sections are fine. The new one is new old stock about 20 years old, no signs it was previously installed and damaged.
