Diesel Fuel Lubricity additive

I an going to be converting a Nice Cat D4D that has been run on #2 (I know this for a fact) over to diesel. What should I add for Lubricity? I always run Standardyne in my other diesels but adding something more can't hurt. I was thinking of also adding either Marvel mystery oil, Dextron II, or 2-cycle oil mix. What ratio should I use? Also, what is a good sealant to use on the Fuel tank drain plug? Thanks.

Here we have #2 diesel as the "good stuff" diesel fuel, and we use #1 diesel in winter, or anyhow blends of thinner #1 with the #2. You wouldn't want to run #1 in summer, it is drier and costs more and makes the engine run hotter.

So when you say you are converting from #2 to diesel, I'm not sure what you mean there? Here #2 is diesel....

Here in Minnesota we have been using from 2% to 20% soybean biodiesel blend which gives all the lubricity needed.

CAT has a tough fuel system and will do just fine with any decent quality fuel without anything added, IMHO.

If you want to add something, do whatever gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling, as if you are giving a pet a treat.

MAY help, certainly won't hurt, but you'll never actually know if it did or not!

I thought #2 and summer diesel were the same thing! I add 2-3 oz of 2-cycle oil to every 5 gallons of diesel, probably don't need to as it's all bio diesel, after reading Pauls post.

In a 12 gallon Massey Ferguson with Perkins AD3-152, I give it a real big Glooooop-Galooooop of Howes at every fill-up.

I have a JD4320 with a sticky throttle. It will when hot idle right down to a stall at the end of field just to do the turn, and not restart until it cools. 2cyl oil is what works for me. I was concerned the pump was going to need some work but 12 years later and it still going. Don't take much, just 3-4oz per fill.

I think he is referring to furnace fuel for the number 2. As my grandpa used to use furnace oil for fuel in his D-4 back when. Now it gets the same fuel as the rest of the tractors get.

John. If you are using premium #2 diesel you don't need to add anything. If you are using truck stop or convienence store fuel you should be using something like Lucas fuel treatment. Use according to the directions on the bottle. If your dozer was made before 1960 it was designed to use #2 fuel oil. Anything after that should be running premium #2 fuel.

hd6gtom, you are saying that most of the fuel being burned in the US is sub par?
