I am not sure what mine is worth, but I know how much it cost. So far I have dug no holes I could not get out of. Dr. Jim, Ph.D.

At first I thought you meant a PhD college degree. Not worth much, from what I've seen of most of 'em.

Your post hole digger looks to be in good shape, 2 augers, PTO cover not all chewed up, probably $600 in western Washington. Post hole diggers and manure spreaders always bring good money (that's about all a hobby farmer needs), other tillage stuff, not so much.

College degrees:

BS. (We all know what that means.)

MS. ( More of same.)

PHD. (Piled higher and deeper.)

Nuff said?

We paid 5 or 6 hundred for a used Bush hog, 2 augers and an extension, looks similar. Our son has a PHD, has worked well for him, he's a professor at Rutgers!

No--not enough said because that is an insult to the majority of people that had the initiative to further their learning.

Got a MA, that simply means "more added."

And lots of college degrees a nothing but a waste of time.
BEEN THERE DONE THAT.

I have an MS in Math and Physics.
After I retired I got 2 PhDs, an 8 and a 12 inch.

Before I graduated High School I had a PhD growing up on a Dairy. The best degree is knowing how to spread the BS and not get any on you.

I HATE when people use acronyms without spelling it out at least one. Pure laziness.

Sheesh, first we grumble about those who don’t want to work to better themselves, then we turn around and berate those who work extra hard to make it to the top.

Well, I have no idea about the post hole digger, but as far as college degrees go, I sure do know a bunch of college educated idiots. I have one brother that has more degrees than a thermometer, but when it comes to real life, he couldn't pour pi$$ out of a boot even if the instructions were stamped into the heel.

I think it all depends of what all those degrees are in and what the holder does with them. If you turned them into making more money that the non-degreed person, that is one thing, but if you turned it into nothing, that is another matter & if into a politician, even worse!

Hey Sir George: I thought you were talking about that piece of paper one receives after spending thousands of dollars to get that piece of paper that says they Know something.
Some people should put that piece of paper in the bottom of the hole that your, PHD makes.

Sure, college degrees are a bunch of BS (or BSc) right? All I know is the guy who operated on me three years ago for colon cancer had an MD after his name. And I'm glad he did ...... far preferable to a farmer or a mechanic or a plumber or an accountant, electrician or carpenter cutting me open. Mind you, here on YT there are probably a few dozen of us who know more about that procedure than my doctor, or they think they do.

My daughter has her PHD and she is a professor at Harvard. She teaches neurosurgery and does brain damage research. She also farms and can throw a bale of hay eight feet high and can breed cattle, and does a lot of volunteer work with her church.

LOL: I find it hilarious how my post got hijacked. Went from PHD to PhD.

Thanks to those that actually gave me an idea what's it worth.

Posted it on my local Craigslist.

A college degree is only as valid as 1) the subject of study and 2) the college that issued it. It also is not the catch all some think it is. If you have a degree in say law it does not make an expert in say medicine. Also if you have a degree in a given field there is very good chance you were already smart in said area of study. You simply wanted to know more and be "qualified" so that you could get a career in said field of study.

There is a glass ceiling for most people who don't have an education.

My boy needed an MBA to be the head of IT security. He is making a ridiculous amount of money. Very
few people can do his job.

Showcrop ..... your daughter and I could never be married (not that we would since I'm 72 years old). The reason being that
she's too smart for me and sounds like she could beat me in an arm wrestle. Plus, I don't go to church and don't even own a
hamster let alone cattle. Not a perfect match made in heaven as they say.

I think it takes a very special dedicated person to become a doctor. Not to mention they rack up a huge student debt. Works very long hours. Doctor is told in med school what openings there are, take them or leave them. So most doctors are lucky to specialize in the area they want to go into.

Yes, sorry your post got hi-jacked, but more of us have an opinion on the off-topic subject. I refuse to call a Phd "doctor", only an MD. Is there a doctor in the house? If you hear that, they're not looking for a Phd !

College like everything else is up to the individual to make it a success or not.Cousin's daughter graduated with a Masters degree in May just started a good paying job she'd of never gotten
without the education.

And tractor advice when there is time(LOL)

But when they are looking for major improvements in their way of life...they need a Phd. Like crop vigor for food harvests, clean water, sattelite communication, drugs to save their lives, high mileage vehicles and on and on and on...they did not get it from truck drivers or backhoe operators doing research in their spare time.

"a mind thats weak and a back that's strong"..........sounds good in a song...but his family starved.

When I graduated, our principal said that that piece of paper isn't worth a darn if you don't have any common sense. How true and more so today.

So if your first love is old tractors you might want to take a look at this very basic list where the thinking, research and ideas of a vast number of Phd's over many many years had made your hobby possible:

Physics: levers, gear ratios, gravity, friction devices
Chemistry: combustion, metallurgy, rubber compounds, lubricants
Thermodynaics: radiators, coolant flow, heat exchange
Mining , Iron ore, smelting, steel making and processing
Foundry sciences, gear cutting, machining
Steel; specific properties; Aluminum production
Electric generation for manufacturing processes
Giant ships for oil and steel transport
concrete for roads, lawyers for pipeline right of ways
Oil drilling, pumping, refining, shipping
Semiconducters for the instruments and communication
Satelittes to move the communications.

So what tractors would we have without this scientific knowledge?

My total lack of degrees has gotten me through a lot of schools! Although when I was in school I must have been picking rocks or hauling manure on those important study days. I?ve completed jobs at at least 6 primary facilities and am about to complete my 5 secondary. I?ve learned a lot of things by doing those jobs. Why just the other week I learned that my dumb rock pickin idear was just as brainy as the engineer that didn?t have pitch fork blisters as a kid! Today my initiative got me to work for 10 hrs and the 86 degrees made my fat sweat.

Sorry that your post got hijacked Geo. but you are among good company. It happens maybe 20 times a week, right? When I go to the coffee shop our annually elected chairman holds the Coffee Shop Ruler and raps the knuckles of anyone who dares to change the subject of the day. Do you have a chairman at your local coffee shop?

Geo, my daughter didn't owe a dime when she graduated except for the mortgage on the house that she bought in Morgantown WV while she was there. But she was able to pay it off with plenty left over when she sold it to move to Hanover NH to work at Dartmouth.

Hate to break the news to you, but one acronym can apply to a multitude of situations.

We all know that PTO means "Power Take Off". It can also mean "Personal Time Off", Paid Time Off", etc.

The list is endless.

That is a PHD in agricultural engineering I'll have you know.

I was working on the electric in a rental house. When I stepped out, there was a guy making holes for a deck being supervised by an older gent.
I pointed at the tool in the young man's hand and commented, "That is what we call a PHD in agricultural engineering."
He gave me a blank look, but the old timer laughed and said. "Yup, he got that courtesy of Bill Snyder."
Turning back to the young guy, I asked what position he'd played.
The old man answered for him that he'd been an offensive lineman.
I then asked if those were the guys who used lots of cuss words, and never applied deodorant.
Though for a second the former Wildcat was going to wrap that digger around my head.

Good thing there are some real smart people with a good education, heck most of us here can't hardly figure out how to repair a 40 year old machine much less
engineer and build one.
