oil capacity for 39 ac wc

okay i've been to my service manual, did searches on these forums and I cannot find the answer
How much oil does my 39 WC hold? ive got nearly 5 quarts in it and the dip stick shows low
also i'm putting oil in through the valve cover, should i put it in through the oil fill cap by the magneto?
I haven't had much luck with the searches any tips?

NOT trying to start a "flame war" here, but gotta ask, upon WHAT do you base that statement?

Both ports lead to the crankcase, and I'm curious as to why using one is better than using the other???

If adding at the tappet cover you might need to wait for a few minutes to check as the oil needs time to flow down to the oil pan. As for difference on one place versus the other might take time to flow or might well up in pockets in the engine that are not filled when added at the other location.
