PS Fluid GMC General

Can you use motor oil in these systems like some trucks do? My is used rarely and leaks out. Uses Trans fluid now but I have a lot more motor oil around than the red stuff. LB

I cannot say for sure but when I tried oil in my Ford 841S it did not like it so I went back to ATF but the owners manual also calls for ATF type F

I think it would be OK, especially if it is a leaker.

If seals are leaking, I've had good success with Lucas PS stop leak.

I used to change mine over to 15/40 at the first change of fluid. Went over a million miles and no more or less leaks than before.

Thanks for the comments. I am going to use some Lucas and fill it with Rotella like my Pete uses. The GMC has a drill rig mounted and sits a lot. LB

Yup I convert them so if it leaks into the engine I don't have oil problems from the leak.
There is a filter in those oil reservoirs just take the top off and it is right there. Most folks don't realize they are there.
