Since small, I've liked Marty Robbins' ballads.

Everyone likes El Paso, linked below.

I also like Big Iron.

What are your favorite cowboy songs.

El Paso

As a small kid in the '70s, I used to go in my "fort" (closet under the stairs) and listen to a Marty Robbins record. I still enjoy most of his songs. My wife bought me a greatest hit CD some years back, it's one of the few I listen to.

Dean not to be putting you down or anybody else but I have NEVER liked the term everybody because not everybody likes or does the same thing. I have found that term is more likely to be wrong more times then it is right.

OK, Old, you caught me.

I, too try to avoid absolutes, like all, none, nobody, everybody, etc., but in this music related topic I digressed from my practice.

I should have said nearly everybody.

Gee old, EVERYBODY doesn't like something.

I thought it was more impressive that he sponsored his own ride so he could run NASCAR.

Favorit of mine is "Blackboard of My Heart" written by my bro. inlaw in early '50s and recorded by Hank Thompson in 1955. It can be brought up on the web.

Watched some of Country music show last night, disgusting so went to the p.c. Can not understand a word they are trying to say. Not like the good old days.

(quoted from post at 15:07:39 08/09/18) OK, again, Old.

Who does not like Hank Williams, Sr.

Dean

KW1450... Hank all day,Hank all night

‘My woman my wife’. I have the smart phone programmed to play that song when Marilyn calls me. The meaningful part for me comes when the song gets to where in mentions the two little babies dying and his wife carrying him through.

I like the song El Paso , But having been stationed at Ft Bliss for several months, and being that the local radio stations played the song at least one time an hour. I got very tired of it! joe

Agreed, Crazy, one of Marty's best.

A White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation....

Dean.

For Marty Robbins tunes, a couple come to mind:

The Hanging Tree
Ribbon of Darkness

But I like most of what he did.

Frankie Laine covered some nice old songs, too. Although he crossed over into different genres, as did M. Robbins:

Mule Train
High Noon

I like the Wild Goose, too--but not really a cowboy song.

Saw Marty in S.C. 'bout 50+ yrs ago racing in a 100 mile 200 lap NASCAR dirt track race - he got up on the flag stand & sang a few of his song. Sure made an impression on this young teenager.

Marty had many great songs but one was his best. My woman, my woman, my wife. That one will raise the hair on the back of your neck.

Dean, this is one of my favorites, man if we could have him back, such good music. Thanks Dean.

I was at a garage sale and the guy had a seven album Marty Robbins record set. I asked him what he wanted and he says the cover is ripped you can have it. I gave him a buck .When I listened to it I had no idea how many hits Marty had Amazing musician and race driver.

Here's another great one, Steve.

That's Tennessee Ernie on our left. Ernie was with Hee Haw for only the first season, 1969, IIRC. He was "replaced" (How does one "replace" Tennessee Ernie?) by Kenny Price.

Enjoy.
