Anyone Ever Repurpose A Steering Gearbox?

I have an extra one off a ~90's chevy truck that I'd like to make something cool with, but I don't have any ideas. Has anyone here ever reused a steering box out of something? Any ideas are appriciated, thanks.

They would be hard to do to many things with because they turn so far one direction then back the other

Back in the 70's a guy I knew used a non-power steering gearbox and steering linkage off an old truck and installed it in his boat.it worked really well and actually didn't tend to wander because of motor torque..the steering wheel was attached straight to the gearbox

Have seen a steering sector from Farmall F-20 used as a winch on a home made engine hoist. These had a full circle sector gear and a worm gear drive, they wound the cable directly on the pedestal shaft. Result was many turns of steering shaft for 1 ft. of cable.

I saw the same thing. Guy had it rigged with a 3/4 horse motor in his shop as a small winch. Had a little crane frame he built. Lawnmower engines and stuff like that.

I used a steering box for a tilt top table. The table has two "A" frame sides, with an "eye" or bushing on top.The steering box is fastened to the table frame. The sector shaft is connected to a tube, across and under the table top. The table top is made narrower than the distance between the "A" frame sides. This allows the top to go between the sides (legs) when tilted. The worm shaft has a crank handle on it, There is a hole drilled in the frame with a pin, to hold the tilt that you want. I use the table when rebuilding transmissions. I have various shape bolts to fasten the transmission housing to the table top. I can have the transmission horizontal or vertical,or anywhere in between, depending on what I need to do.
This table could also be used as a welding table. Fasten your project, and tilt for best welding.
Sorry, I am not able to provide photos.

cant see that, about 5-6 revolutions and u be done. need a car or truck differential for wire winding.

took a power steering gearbox and used it to lift my garden tractor implements, like a 3 point. ran power steering pump from the engine shaft. Had a little handwheel on the gear box input shaft. Turn it one way it came up, turn it the other way it went down.
